Laid Up: Another Season 3 – Chapter 31 (Conclusion and Epilogue)

    _ _ _ _ _

Tina watched Shane interact with Shay.  “I’m glad we’re having another girl.  I so wouldn’t want Transformers in the house,” Tina said to Stephanie.

    “She might be a tomboy.”

“We’ll buy her a softball glove or a basketball and net.  We’re not gonna care if she’s a tomboy.  That’s fine.  Just no guns, no violent toys, no video games.”  Tina watched Shay set up a Transformer and then knock it down.  “I just don’t get the appeal.”

“Good luck with the no video games.  It’s a different time, Tina.  We have to force Mikey to go outside and play.”

“Isn’t that horrible?”  Tina shook her head.  “God, I sound like an old lady.”  Tina aged her voice, making it quiver and crack, “These dang kids and their new-fangled ways.  Back in my day, we played outside ‘til the streetlights came on.”

    “We’re getting old.”

“Speak for yourself.  But we’re happy,” Tina added.

    “Happiest.”

    “Really?  And why’s that?”

Stephanie brushed an invisible errant hair off her forehead with her left hand.  Tina grabbed her hand as her eyes focused on her sister’s ring finger.  “Oh…my…God.  When did this happen?”

“You’re kidding me?  Oh, Stephanie.  Congratulations.  I’m so happy.  Henry’s the best.”

    “He is.”

“You’re both lucky.”  Tina paused to think about a wedding so soon.  “And you’re sure this is what you want?  You’re not moving too fast?”

“You mean that I was engaged to another man last year and had to cancel all of those wedding plans?”

What Stephanie had done to Peter had been cruel, but that was a different Stephanie.  Peter had been an innocent bystander in the path of the train wreck that was Stephanie Kennard.  Those wedding plans weren’t just cancelled.  It had become a scene, a production and Stephanie’s bad behavior almost got her locked up for burglary, fraud, and other crimes.  Last year, just like the fifteen or so years before, Stephanie had been petty, materialistic, hypocritical, conniving, and manipulative.  She had been a bitch.  All of that negativity was due to living with memories of abuse that she kept to herself.  Once the floodgate was opened, Stephanie’s true self began to reemerge; the girl with the great personality, the friend to everyone, the one who had once been described as the girl with the big heart.

    1. Portia, congrats on finishing this epic! I will always be a fan, and I was very happy to be one of the people to encourage you, and who knows–maybe you’ll have another fanfic in you that will need to come out! You’ve inspired so many of the writers here, so thank you, and I hope we’ll see you around!xoxo

    2. wow what can i say, this story has been the best time and time again and i can say that i’ve enjoyed every bit of it, though I’m extremely sad that this is it for laid up. My favourite couple have obviously been dana and alice, and you’ve written them and their story just perfectly, how it should have been, for me anyway. For every chapter, page and word….THANK YOU PORTIA!!!!!!!!!!! xox

    4. Oh PortiaOnly I can only say a heart felt Thank you for brining us this impressive and comprehensive epic. I have ready this story from the start. It has always amazed me how you wound the pieces of the series into this complete work. I love where you have taken all of them and how it was so true to the characters we have know. Thanks for all you hard work.

    5. Portia, thank you so much for this epic love story. I’m happy that all of the characters are happy and content. The loop holes that the show had created, you have thoroughly patched. That for me is remarkable. Jenny’s death in season 5 and her magazine being thrown in the pool – what can I say, your attention to detail is a gold standard in fanfic. Kudos to you and also Wendy for creating this wonderful story.

    6. Thanks so much for sharing this incredible journey with us. This is one of the best and engaging stories I have ever read. You are an remarkable talent!!

    7. Thank you for this story. What an undertaking! You got all the main characters involved and kept me interested. And more importantly, you finished it. I love that!

    9. I read this chapter as slowly as I could so that I could savor every word of it. It was worth me taking the time, although I was fully aware that each time I clicked “Next page” I was that much closer to the finish. This was a fantastic end to such a richly layered story. Everyone got their ending, and each and every one of them earned it… the struggles each couple/family had to overcome to get to their happiness made it all the more believable. You didn’t cheat, Portia, not the readers, not the story. This has been such an absolute treat to read, through all the highs and lows, and I’ve loved every single word of it. (And kudos for not forgetting Jenny this chapter! heh) Thank you, Portia, for writing this story and taking us on the journey with you. Take care, and I hope we see another story from you soon.

    11. Hello PortiaOnly, This story has been an absolute joy to read. It has taken much time and dedication from you to create a momentous melodrama. So many of the images and scenes including dialogue where taken from the show and seemlessly interweaved in to your take on events.I stand up and applaud you and your wonderful talent.Thank you ever so much for sharing it with me.Your Loyal Fan.PS – I hope that you continue to write about these characters and post your work here.

    12. well after about a month and a half im finally finish with your story and as I wrote you before I truly believe you are a gift to writing and taking readers along for the experience. I had to stop several times for work or sleep but it was well worth the time. 14. PortiaOnly- I hope you receive this message so many years after writing this incredible story but I had to tell you, this is by far one of the most amazing L Word stories I’ve ever read. You did an absolutely remarkable job with this. The story telling, the storyline, the interweaving of the characters, seasons, cannon and AU was beyond incredible. You have amazing talent and I hope to read more of your incredible work. Amazingly done!
