    Bette, Tina, Dana, Alice, Shane, Carmen, Helena, Dylan, Kit, Angus, Peggy, and Marilyn discover what John Lennon said in the song, “Beautiful Boy” is absolutely true: “Life is what happens while you’re busy making other plans.”

    The three caterers began to pour wine into all of the glasses around the table.  They skipped Tina and when one of the caterers got to Alice’s place setting, Alice covered the wineglass with her hand and Dana nodded her approval.  Shane, who was sitting across from them, narrowed her eyes as she tried to piece together some missing information.  Carmen was itching to tell her what Shane didn’t know, but she hadn’t had a moment yet.

    Tina looked at the caterers who were now ready to come out with salads and then the table of friends and family.  “Before we start, we’d love it if Marilyn could bless this day and this table.”

    Marilyn, who had married Alice and Dana in Whistler, was an ordained minister and these were moments she lived for.  “Sure, my pleasure.”  She glanced around the table.  “Could we all join hands?”

    Each person gave their hand to the person next to them. 

     “We are blessed to be here today among our good friends, our family, the people we love.  We are blessed to have good food to fill our bellies; and blessed to have delicious drink to quench our thirst.  We are especially blessed because we know there are many others who live without these gifts.  As we enjoy this bounty, let us think about those who are struggling today and will struggle tomorrow.  Let us consider ways in which we can ease their burden.”  Marilyn paused, looked up at the amiable faces around her.  “May peace and love follow you all the days of your lives.”  She grinned and said, “L’chaim.”

    Conversation and laughter had been infectious throughout this Thanksgiving meal and at this table.  There was something about the day that seemed special to Bette, special beyond the holiday.  There was an unmistakable energy and Bette wasn’t sure from where it emanated.   She had finished eating and now sat and listened to the various conversations.  Something inside her became quiet and the din dissipated.  Bette closed her eyes and she would swear to anyone later, that she clearly felt the presence of her father on the patio with them.  She could see Melvin nodding his head and saying, “My girls.  My boy.  Together.  This…this is what I wanted to see.”  Bette didn’t miss Daddy.  He was right there beside her, watching, listening, and laughing with his children.  When she opened her eyes, she found both Kit and Mo looking at her with grins on their faces.  They felt it, too.

That for me is remarkable. Jenny’s death in season 5 and her magazine being thrown in the pool – what can I say, your attention to detail is a gold standard in fanfic. Kudos to you and also Wendy for creating this wonderful story.

    13. I read this chapter as slowly as I could so that I could savor every word of it. It was worth me taking the time, although I was fully aware that each time I clicked “Next page” I was that much closer to the finish. This was a fantastic end to such a richly layered story. Everyone got their ending, and each and every one of them earned it… the struggles each couple/family had to overcome to get to their happiness made it all the more believable. You didn’t cheat, Portia, not the readers, not the story. This has been such an absolute treat to read, through all the highs and lows, and I’ve loved every single word of it. (And kudos for not forgetting Jenny this chapter! heh) Thank you, Portia, for writing this story and taking us on the journey with you. Take care, and I hope we see another story from you soon.

    18. well after about a month and a half im finally finish with your story and as I wrote you before I truly believe you are a gift to writing and taking readers along for the experience. I had to stop several times for work or sleep but it was well worth the time. I prolonged finishing the last chapter didn’t want t see it end, but like the L word, like tibette chemistry, all good things but come to end….Bravo!! my friend I hope to see a book with your name on it forreal..til next story………

You did an absolutely remarkable job with this. The story telling, the storyline, the interweaving of the characters, seasons, cannon and AU was beyond incredible. You have amazing talent and I hope to read more of your incredible work. Amazingly done!
