    Author Notes:

    Bette, Tina, Dana, Alice, Shane, Carmen, Helena, Dylan, Kit, Angus, Peggy, and Marilyn discover what John Lennon said in the song, “Beautiful Boy” is absolutely true: “Life is what happens while you’re busy making other plans.”

     

    A few seats down, Shane had been watching Alice and Dana closely.  When she caught Alice’s eye, she took her hand and curved it as it moved down the front of her body, from just below her breasts to her belt buckle—asking Alice in universal sign language—are you pregnant?  Alice nodded and Shane laughed.  Again, Shane was reminded that life was as it should be.  It made her wonder about her own.

     

    * * * * *

    A few hours later

     

    The caterers had been dismissed.  They had cleaned up after dinner and Tina and Bette were going to take care of bringing out dessert and coffee. 

     

    Carmen had gone inside and now came out with a CD.  She had plucked it out from a stack of music she seldom listened to or used in her deejaying work.  This particular CD was from 1995.  She placed it in the boombox and pressed the forward button until she came to the eleventh cut.  Carmen announced to everyone, “I was thinking of this song earlier and wanted to play it for Tina and Bette…and…whoever else might like it.”

     

    She hit play, then sat down next to Shane.  When the piano began the first strains of the song by Elton John, Bette took Tina’s hand.  Tina recognized the song.  She turned to Bette and kissed her on the lips.  Dana and Alice recognized the song, too.  In fact, most of the people around the table knew it—all but Mikey, Shay, and Angelica.  Shane glanced at Shay, then looked deep into Carmen’s eyes.  Dylan and Helena thought about Wilson and Jun-Ying, back home in New York.  Alice glanced at Howie and Howie smiled, nodding his head, understanding what Mo had told him earlier.  He and Mo shared a look.  Marilyn believed that what she said when she blessed the table inspired the song.   Elton began to sing:

That for me is remarkable. Jenny’s death in season 5 and her magazine being thrown in the pool – what can I say, your attention to detail is a gold standard in fanfic. Kudos to you and also Wendy for creating this wonderful story.

    13. I read this chapter as slowly as I could so that I could savor every word of it. It was worth me taking the time, although I was fully aware that each time I clicked “Next page” I was that much closer to the finish. This was a fantastic end to such a richly layered story. Everyone got their ending, and each and every one of them earned it… the struggles each couple/family had to overcome to get to their happiness made it all the more believable. You didn’t cheat, Portia, not the readers, not the story. This has been such an absolute treat to read, through all the highs and lows, and I’ve loved every single word of it. (And kudos for not forgetting Jenny this chapter! heh) Thank you, Portia, for writing this story and taking us on the journey with you. Take care, and I hope we see another story from you soon.

    18. well after about a month and a half im finally finish with your story and as I wrote you before I truly believe you are a gift to writing and taking readers along for the experience. I had to stop several times for work or sleep but it was well worth the time. I prolonged finishing the last chapter didn’t want t see it end, but like the L word, like tibette chemistry, all good things but come to end….Bravo!! my friend I hope to see a book with your name on it forreal..til next story………

You did an absolutely remarkable job with this. The story telling, the storyline, the interweaving of the characters, seasons, cannon and AU was beyond incredible. You have amazing talent and I hope to read more of your incredible work. Amazingly done!
