Laid Up: Another Season 3 – Chapter 31 (Conclusion and Epilogue)

    THE END

    EPILOGUE

    2 Years Later

Tina and Bette are living in a Colonial with a wraparound porch in Ardsley, New York, a village in Westchester County and chose not to live in a loft in SoHo.  Tina and Bette wanted a backyard for the children; Tina wanted to be able to grow more than a few sprigs of rosemary in a kitchen garden, and Bette wanted to grow a garden of colorful wildflowers.  Also neither one could bear parting with the Buddha statue they had purchased and had sent from Nepal.  It wouldn’t have fit in a loft or an apartment, but in a large outdoor area, it could be and did become the centerpiece for a nature-oriented, meditation space.

Angelica attends Lyceum Kennedy French International School in the same village.  Her younger sister, Tamara Rose is trying very hard to keep up with her.  Angelica is teaching Tamara sign language and French.  She gets Tamara’s attention and say, “Bonjour, ma soeur,” then signs, “Hello, sister.”

Both Bette and Tina work in the City.  Tina has her partner’s office at Focus Features.  Her film, Twisted Forest is being edited.  It stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Maya Rudolph, Ethan Hawke, William H. Macy, and Terrence Howard.  Tina has acquired the rights to the book, Killing Marriage and has hired three writers to come up with individual screenplays.  Helen Mirren has expressed interest.

Bette owns the Bette Porter New York Gallery where she sells predominantly modern, post-modern, and abstract art.  Her space in SoHo is a large loft divided into four separate galleries and a reception area.  One gallery is called the Melvin Porter Room, where the Peggy Peabody Collection is displayed on permanent loan.  The second gallery containing the abstract art is called The Antati Room, a name that many clients falsely believe is some indigenous peoples’ word for ‘art,’ instead of it simply being the first two letters of the three most important people in her life—Angelica, Tamara, and Tina.

She is currently producing an exhibit by the painter, Liu Baojun and planning an artist’s reception where Baojun will be the guest of honor.

The Porter-Kennards see Clayton “Mo” Moskowitz often, but Bette has still refused to meet Mo’s mother and has not allowed Mo to take Tamara to visit her.  Bette sees Ruth Moskowitz, her mother’s former college friend who betrayed Maxine with Melvin on television and in the newspapers.  In her early 80s, Ruth is still an active member of New York’s political scene.

    1. Portia, congrats on finishing this epic! I will always be a fan, and I was very happy to be one of the people to encourage you, and who knows–maybe you’ll have another fanfic in you that will need to come out! You’ve inspired so many of the writers here, so thank you, and I hope we’ll see you around!xoxo

    2. wow what can i say, this story has been the best time and time again and i can say that i’ve enjoyed every bit of it, though I’m extremely sad that this is it for laid up. My favourite couple have obviously been dana and alice, and you’ve written them and their story just perfectly, how it should have been, for me anyway. For every chapter, page and word….THANK YOU PORTIA!!!!!!!!!!! xox

    4. Oh PortiaOnly I can only say a heart felt Thank you for brining us this impressive and comprehensive epic. I have ready this story from the start. It has always amazed me how you wound the pieces of the series into this complete work. I love where you have taken all of them and how it was so true to the characters we have know. Thanks for all you hard work.

    5. Portia, thank you so much for this epic love story. I’m happy that all of the characters are happy and content. The loop holes that the show had created, you have thoroughly patched. That for me is remarkable. Jenny’s death in season 5 and her magazine being thrown in the pool – what can I say, your attention to detail is a gold standard in fanfic. Kudos to you and also Wendy for creating this wonderful story.

    6. Thanks so much for sharing this incredible journey with us. This is one of the best and engaging stories I have ever read. You are an remarkable talent!!

    9. I read this chapter as slowly as I could so that I could savor every word of it. It was worth me taking the time, although I was fully aware that each time I clicked “Next page” I was that much closer to the finish. This was a fantastic end to such a richly layered story. Everyone got their ending, and each and every one of them earned it… the struggles each couple/family had to overcome to get to their happiness made it all the more believable. You didn’t cheat, Portia, not the readers, not the story. This has been such an absolute treat to read, through all the highs and lows, and I’ve loved every single word of it. (And kudos for not forgetting Jenny this chapter! heh) Thank you, Portia, for writing this story and taking us on the journey with you. Take care, and I hope we see another story from you soon.

    11. Hello PortiaOnly, This story has been an absolute joy to read. It has taken much time and dedication from you to create a momentous melodrama. So many of the images and scenes including dialogue where taken from the show and seemlessly interweaved in to your take on events.I stand up and applaud you and your wonderful talent.Thank you ever so much for sharing it with me.Your Loyal Fan.PS – I hope that you continue to write about these characters and post your work here.

    12. well after about a month and a half im finally finish with your story and as I wrote you before I truly believe you are a gift to writing and taking readers along for the experience. 14. PortiaOnly- I hope you receive this message so many years after writing this incredible story but I had to tell you, this is by far one of the most amazing L Word stories I’ve ever read. You did an absolutely remarkable job with this. The story telling, the storyline, the interweaving of the characters, seasons, cannon and AU was beyond incredible. You have amazing talent and I hope to read more of your incredible work. Amazingly done!
