    Leap of Faith (Chapter 14)

“I need you to understand,” Lara pleaded. She knew she was hurting Helena and it was killing her.

“I’m trying to,” came the answer, even as Helena fought back tears, “but this is hard.”

“I know and I’m sorry, but I just need to spend some time on my own to try to figure some things out.”

“But here? Lara, this place is so provincial…so toxic.”

“At the very least I need to finish closing up Charlotte’s house. Once the will is finally probated I can figure out what to do with it, but until then…” A thought stopped Lara in her tracks. “Maybe Lindsay and her family will want to live there?”

Helena understood everything that was going on in Lara’s head, except the part where she wanted some time on her own. Once the Perkins’ got wind of it, they were sure to attack. How could Lara not know this?

“My love,” she chose her words carefully, “I’ll give you all the space you need, but I’m not comfortable with the thought of going home right now.”

“The children miss you so much,” Lara smiled, albeit a bit too bravely. “It will just be another week or so and then I’ll come home.” Her determination was clear.

“That’s not fair, even if it is true.” Acquiescence was not a skill Helena had ever bothered to master and her discomfort showed. “You know I’m not the only one they miss, don’t you?”

Bette’s head was reeling. Ari had just assured her that the sexual harassment case against her was going well at the same time he acknowledged that, innocent or not, it was going to cost her her job. Her reputation was going to be shot to shit.

“We’re going to call Weidler & Morgan in the morning and get them started on crisis management,” Tina read her mind. “We’ll beat Ava and Nadia at their own game.”

“How’s that?” Bette’s forlorn look broke Tina’s heart.

“They’re going to want to use the settlement to leverage public opinion,” Tina replied. “Why don’t we see if we can sway the public to our side before they get out of the starting blocks?”

“They’re not expecting that, are they?” Bette was intrigued by the idea. “Do you really think we can do it?”

    1. Woot! New chapter!! I think Jenny got what she deserved. I am glad Bette has such a good attorney. I like Kit/Riley/Beth together — they seem like a good support system for each other. I wish Lara would let Helena stay and support her. Hopefully she can find a way to do so long-distance. Gah! Another tough hit for Danish. Menopause is going to make her recovery from the recent blows so much more difficult. The framily is going to have it’s work cut out for them in helping get the girls though this. I love this story and adore your writing, SG. I’m sticking with you. And trying to dust off my hibernating writing skills… ;-D Thanks so much!!

    2. Good job as always Sammy! Poor Dana and Alice, I couldn’t imagin what They are going through and hope I never will. I feel so bad for Bette, but the way she is handing this is sooo cool. I would be ripping someones head off LOL. Beth needs to relax and trust Shane (even tho I understand why she is thinking this way. Shane is no angel). But trust is everything in a relationship. I am still giggling about Jenny,:) Great job as always, I just love this story and ur writing. U be the bestest!!!

    3. Well well well! I don’t come by here very often these days but what a wonderful surprise to see a favourite of mine posting an update to one of my favourite stories! I think I might pop in more often again, thanks :)
