    Life Through a Viewfinder

I quickly make my way toward the sculpture and just as I am about to look on the other side, I trip and stumble right into the arms of a stranger who so graciously manages to break my fall.  In reflex to my embarrassment, I have yet to make eye contact with the one who saved me from face planting on the concrete.  When I raise my head to offer gratitude, I come face to face with the other half of my soul.  As we make eye contact, both of our hearts stop and then start again in a unique rhythm of one harmonious beat.  There are no words, in fact, no sound at all except our heartbeat.

Finally, she speaks ever so softly, “uh, are you ok?”

After shaking my head clear I respond, “yea, yea I’m good.  Thanks for uh, for catching me.”

“Well, it’s not every day that I have such a beautiful woman falling for me.  I’m Tina.”  She laughs and winks at me in such an adorable way.  I hold out my hand to shake hers.  The moment our hands touch, we both feel that surge of electricity that you hear so much about.

“I’m Bette, and I would imagine beautiful women throw themselves at your feet every chance they get.”

“You’re sweet.  I was on my way to Starbucks.  Can I buy you a coffee?”

“You just saved me from a close encounter with the concrete, I’m pretty sure I should be buying you coffee.”

    April 2006, New York City

It’s been two years since that fateful day.  So much has happened since then.  T and I did end up getting coffee and spent the entire day wondering around New York getting to know one another.  We both knew there was something different from that first moment when our eyes met.  We’ve been together ever since.  I have no doubt that she is my forever and tonight I plan on taking another step towards our future together.  While we’ve been living together for over a year, I think it’s time to make this woman my wife.

It turns out that we have a lot in common.  One very important fact being that we are both from LA, but work in New York often.  Tina is a film producer and spends equal time on both coasts.  It is spring again and we are back in New York for a few weeks.  She has an upcoming premier and I am doing a shoot for Vogue.  We both have the afternoon off and decide to take a stroll to the sculpture to remember the moment that brought us together.  It’s such a perfect day out.  The weather is nice and newness of life is in full bloom as we make our way through Central Park towards 6th Avenue.
