CAMP

After Lunch the group went down to the stables. They watched the Chasteen equestrian team finish practice. They then got on horses.

“Okay who here has been on a horse before?” The instructor asked. Jess, Megan and Gloria raised there hands.

“Okay we are going to start off with trotting.” She said. The girls rode in around the ring.

“This is boring.” Jess said.

“Well what would you like to be doing?” The instructor asked.

“I want to jump.” Jess said.

“Jumping is only for our advanced riders.” She said.

“But I do it all the time at home.” Jess said. “Please let me show you.” The instructor hesitated at first.

“Okay I am going to let you try, but if you fall it will be your own fault.” She said and set up a couple of the fences. The Chasteen equestrian coach was talking with the team in the stands.

“Coach look that girl is going to jump.” One of the girls said. The coach turned and looked. Jess easily cleared the fences.

“Can I go higher Please.” Jess asked. The instructor clearly impressed agreed and moved the bar higher on each fence.

“What is she doing if I can’t go that high?” One of the girls said. Jess took off and again cleared all the fences.

“Who is that girl?” The coach asked.

“I think she a softball player.” Another girl said.

“Yeah she is going to be playing on the new JV team. She is supposed to be real good.” Another one said.

“She shouldn’t be playing Softball she should be riding.” The coach said. “Hey Elizabeth.” The coach called the instructor.

“Okay see now you got me in trouble.” Elizabeth said. “You girls better get out of here.” Jess got of the horse and headed to where everyone else was standing on the gate.

“Jess I didn’t know that you could ride like that.” Megan said.

“Believe it or not you don’t know everything about me.” Jess said hanging her helmet on the rack.

“Come on guys lets go swimming the pool opens in 15 minutes.” Gloria said. The girls headed back to the cabin.

“I am sorry Coach. I know only advanced riders are supposed to jump but she really wanted to.” Elizabeth explained leading the horse into the stable.

“It’s okay. Do you know who that was?” The coach asked.

“She’s a softball player I think.” Elizabeth answered.

“Do you know her name?” She asked

“Yeah it is right here on the sign in sheet. Jess Porter.” Elizabeth said. “Why?”

“Because I have got to get that girl on my team.” The coach said as she watched the girls walk playfully across the open field.
