There was now 15 seconds left and Shane dribbled over to the other side of the court where the cheerleaders were. Carmen and Jenny watched as Shane got as close to them as possible. Shane continued dribbling, looked at Carmen and said

" Carmen, I know this might seem like a bad time, but I was wondering if you wanted to go out with me tomorrow ? "

Carmen was shocked but at the same time completely happy. She didn’t know what to say so she just nodded her head. Shane smiled but was put out of her daze when the entire bench yelled

" SHANE SHOOT ! "

There was 3 seconds left and Alex was guarding her tight, she leaned in slightly pushing her away, squared up and took a 3 point bomb.

Alex’s team looked at the basketball hoop in awe. Wondering if that really just happened. On the other hand Papi, Morgan, Sam, Paige, and the rest of the team came over and literally tackled Shane to the ground. And Central’s fans went insane. The announcer came on and said

" Final Score Oceanside – 63 Central – 64. Great game to both teams and a well done to today’s MVP Shane McCutcheon ! "

Carmen and Jenny hugged each other. Jenny was suprised that Shane asked out Carmen while risking possibly losing the game. But they won, and everyone was happy. 

Central and Oceanside both lined up to shake hands.

After they did Alex yelled " Heyy Shane ! "

Shane turned around and saw Alex jogging over to her. " Um, nice shot man "

Shane was a little suprised at Alex’s niceness but replied " Thanks, you played really good too "

" Thanks " they shook hands and Alex said " Well, I gotta go see Marissa but I’ll see you later I guess "

" Yeah, oh and Alex .. you and Marissa look really good together, I’m happy for you "

" Thanks Shane … see you later "

" Bye Alex "

Then Alex turned around and ran over to Marissa. Seeing that Shane thought she should go over to talk to Carmen, but Sam came over and said Coach Long was already waiting for us in the locker room. Shane signaled to Jenny that she’d meet her at home. Jenny understood and waved as Shane left for the locker room.

" Great game girls, you all pulled together and came back, I’m proud of you guys " Coach Long said genuinly

He finished his talk " Just remember girls we don’t have another game until Saturday, so I’m giving you tomorrow off. I’ll see you guys on Wednsday " He then turned around and went to his office, leaving the girls to change and go home.

Shane had just finished her showing and changing when Papi came over and said

" Awesome game Shane, it took a lot of guts to risk the game to ask Carmen out. "

" Yeah, I know … I would’ve killed myself if I didn’t make that last shot .. Or worse .. Coach Long would’ve killed me first. "

They both laughed and made their way to the parking lot. Driving home Shane thought about Carmen.

" I like you so much Carmen … please don’t play me … "
