Love in Control – Chapter VIII – Will You Marry Me?

Starved as Manhattanites were for a sense of open space in their bars, the third floor was the current nirvana that its regulars loathe to surrender to the broader public. If you didn’t know the third level was there, you wouldn’t know to look for it. Access was not publicized; and even if you somehow stumbled upon it, the regulars liked to hoard its signature drink, the Dom Rose’.

On her way back to her table, upon returning from the ladies room to refresh herself, Rian found a couple of potential targets eyeing her as she made her way across the room, stopping by the bar to order a less alcoholic drink.  As she sat down, she felt rather than saw two other guys stand up from the table they’d been sitting in.  After the bartender came by to drop her drink off, they asked to join her.  Ten minutes after some banter about the surprisingly pleasant fall weather, she suggested, “It seems a waste to spend the night here.  Why don’t we take this upstairs, boys?  Quite the unexpected surprise up there that I guarantee you’ll never forget.”

Callan and Pat, two bankers visiting from the London office of a European bank, were beside themselves. They’d already been excited by Rian’s blithe dismissal of the men she’d walked past upon returning from the ladies room. And now she was leading them up the stairs to a level she said would blow their minds. Could this night get any better?!

Rian flicked a quick glance over at Jade, who was still surrounded by the girls. Still there – what is it with her girlfriend’s exes? While Rian was in the ladies’, Jade had texted the girls weren’t taking the hint that Jade wanted to spend a quiet night alone, and that the girls were all in New York to throw a bachelorette party for one amongst them.  They’d been trying to get Jade to join them for a night of bar hopping, but Jade had been resistant, so they said they’d hang out with Jade in this bar instead. Her girlfriend’s jade green eyes, panicked earlier upon catching Rian’s annoyed looks at her table, were hidden from sight now by the bare backs of a couple of girls who’d squeezed into the small table.

    1. Oh, that was absolute worth the long wait!

Fantastic and sexy chapter, wouldn’t mind if you write more B&T in your story.

But Rian and Jade captured my heart, they are a great couple.

      Thanks for the update!

    2. You can be sure that yes, it was worth the wait
      for another fantastic chapter!
My heart always Tibette, however Jade and Rian captivated me.
      The whole universe

    3. Hello everyone. Thanks for taking the time to comment. A few caveats: the story arc for “Love In Control” will not have much Bette/Tina romance, although there will be occasional scenes. Their story is evolving in this book — the evolution will see them in a family unit, rather than as a couple. This particular arc started with scenes in earlier chapters, and will be more central in the next chapters. I think I’ve gone over their romance (exhaustively) in the other books already, anyway, and I really don’t have much more to say about “Tibette” than what I’ve already written in the other books.

I sense that it’s time that they evolve and mature in my stories, as characters, otherwise, their story arc will not make much sense if they remain struck in TiBette-land (at least in my storyline). To be perfectly honest, an evolving, maturing Bette/Tina, in the way I’ve been writing about them, is infinitely more interesting for me to write. I can sense them growing, and it seems to be as part of a family unit: this evolution is more authentic and important in this book than “TiBette.” it’s the other couples, in the meantime, who will be developing their own romances.

In the end this book is about a few kinds of love, what they mean, etc., but make no mistake the evolving Bette/Tina take on love remains the central/anchoring one for this book, particularly as things take a turn in the next chapters.

i may disappoint many of the readers who take the time to click through the pages of this story … I hope they will understand that I really can’t write a story if it’s not something I believe in or can stand behind, or would even want to read myself. I have moved on, and have explored the limits of that particular time in their lives through several books already, and so have the Bette and Tina characters in my storylines. They are different now from who they were in the TiBette version of the earlier books from who they seem to be growing into —

maybe I should re-classify this book to another fandom, different from “L Word” even if Bette and Tina and their family are central characters?

I seem to be raising expectations by slotting this book under “L Word.” And that’s not fair to you, the readers.

    4. While Bette and Tina originally attracted me to your writing, your Jade/Rain and Aerin/Harley characters have captivated me. Their unexplored characters are ripe with endless plot lines. Don’t apologize for the lack of TiBette romance, as your other characters and your writing are rich enough to sustain my appetite for a romantic escape.
