“Yes, they put Winnie in handcuffs when they arrested her,” Kit said with a hint of good-natured exasperation.
“Wish I’d seen that,” Alice wrote. “B & T won’t tell me this stuff, Helena won’t talk to me and Dane is on autopilot.”
“I think it’s more that they can’t imagine you’d want to know it, rather than they won’t tell you,” Jenny said.
“Don’t need to be protected,” Alice insisted.
“Listen to me,” Kit said. “They need to protect you and you’re going to let them.” Alice shot her a questioning look. “Bette can still feel your blood on her hands. She’s acting like she’s fine, but Tina is keeping her glued together.”
“Didn’t know that,” Al wrote slowly.
“I think Helena has so much going through her head that she doesn’t know where to start,” Jenny said softly.
“As for Dana,” Kit said, “she faced her own mortality, but has no idea how to process the reality that she nearly lost you. The truth is that you may be the only person in her life who fully understands what she’s going through.”
Alice was stunned. Of course Kit was right. How could she have not realized what Dana was feeling? She closed her eyes and banged her head back against the pillow. No wonder Dane wasn’t sleeping.
“Hey,” Jenny took her hand. “She’ll be fine. You’ll make sure of that.”
“We brought something for you,” Kit changed the subject. Jenny nodded and went to get something from her bag. “We picked them up that night.”
“We got most of them and the hotel let me pick up the rest of them this morning.” Jenny untied the corners of the linen napkin and held it out for Al to see. Alice fingered the black pearls gently and smiled at Kit and Jenny as an idea struck her.
Tina covered for Helena at the financing meeting. Having spent her career in development, she was still mildly surprised at her ability to understand and manage the business side of filmmaking. The word of mouth of At Wit’s End, which was opening in a couple of days, made this meeting a breeze. When she left, Shaolin had a fifty million dollar commitment over two years with an option for another fifty. Her first call was to Bette.

Yay! happy jig. After my declaration of crushing on the Pegster I feel sort of bare – just to clarify – it’s not like I want to get down with the lady but her voice is so smooth – I think I’d like her to read to me – wait now I’ve said way to much. Your story still fab and I love it so.
