    Meditations on Life Part 10

She remembered and instead of mourning she could only thank God, whoever she may be, for sparing Bette from that fate.  Tina wanted to feel bad about it, she did, but she found herself drawn to the beat of Bette’s heart.  Her feet keeping time like it would a particularly catchy tune.

Bending at the waist, Tina hooks the her feet around the legs of her chair and pulls herself closer to the bed.  Tentatively she reaches out to Bette’s hand, hesitating above it.

Unnatural was the word that came to Tina’s mind.  It was unnatural to see Bette lying against white.  The contrast was amazing between white and her skin tone, and Tina had admired that for years in power suits and dresses…  but this was unnatural, and it seemed to wash out Bette’s complexion even more.

Sighing, Tina allowed her hand to grasp Bette’s, starting at how cold it was.  Chuffing it gently between her hands she waited until she could feel some warmth return to the extremity before she brought it to her mouth the kiss.

“Hey baby.”  Tina whispered, “Everyone else has gone home,” tucking and imaginary hair behind Bette’s ear, she kissed her nose.  “It’s going to be much quieter when you wake up.”  Resting her head on the bed, Tina tucked Bette’s hand under her chin, “And I’ll be here, waiting baby.”

“God,”  Bette moaned.  Her stomach felt like it was on fire.  She tried to shift away from the pain, gasping as she moved the wrong way.  Her stomach started to roll as the pain seemed to grow.

“Bette,”  Tina called from her seat by the window when she heard the drawn breath.  “Baby”, Tina jumped from her seat, her feet barely touching the ground before to reached the bedside.  “Bette, honey, you need to stop moving.”  Tina said, her hands stilling Bette’s roaming ones.

“Bette, honey, you need to lie still.”  She coached again, watching as Bette’s writhing body slowly start to relax back into the mattress, “that’s it baby.  Relax.”  Tina’s thumbs rubbed gentle circles on Bette’s palm.

“Tee.”  Bette called, her voice barely a whisper.  Blinking slowly, the room started to come into focus.  In a far away place, Bette could recognise where she was, but the name of the place was lost to her.  “What.. where?”

    1. Ding, ding, ding! I was right, it was her appendix. I had to laugh at how confused Bette was once she woke up. She was too cute. Something tells me she’s going to be an awful patient! PPS

    2. Very happy to see Bette is OK. Bette was so cute when is woke up!!! Glad Tina and Angie spent some time together and had a good laugh. Thank you Love this story!!! PPS

    3. This is great Deean, Bette Porter wondered if she had gas????????? That will be a story to tell. Glad Tina is reflecting on the past and is fixed on the present and future. Thank you, Md aka Oma

    4. Hi, dear sweet Deean! Ah, it is great to see that Bette will be recovering. Her confusion, while awakening from the anesthesia was very realistic. You are right. Tina has grown a lot and handles things accordingly. She really knew how to keep Bette steady and give her the proper feedback as to what had happened to her. It was quite insightful to learn that Tina understood when Bette stopped laughing and that she misses that part of her. We know that both can work on something that will mend the wrong decisions made in the past. Plus, Angie’s presence is another encouragement for them to start a new path. On the other hand, we also think that Helena has grown into a kind and wonderful friend to have around. It is true that most of the time, through adversity we become stronger and better people. We are so happy that Helena has become a charming and faithful friend to both B&T, plus a great Aunt for Angie. While going back to the happy times we’ve shared in our lives, we realize that simple things are the ones which remain in our minds forever. Thanks, dearest friend for this amazing update. Hugs & kisses on both your cheeks. Lu & Marsh (Proud Salsa Aunties to the loving JC, Eunichick, ZLFAN, T_Daze, Melrose231 and Tias Adoradas to Patpez)
