    Tina collected the dishes and went into the kitchen. Bette took a drink of her coffee
    “I don’t think that you two have an issue with her being gay “
    “I don’t – it’s obvious that the two of you are very close. We have not been good parents for Tina but how could we not want for her what she has – this is a beautiful apartment and Angie is lovely and the two of you have a good life”
    “How is Louise going to take all of this?”
    “She is going to have to get used to it “
    “And if she doesn’t?”
    Mary shrugged “That will be a problem. I love both my daughters and Louise does have problems but she is not a bad girl “
    “Tina has no interest in getting all sisterly with Louise “
    “I can understand that – really Bette – there is nothing to worry about “
    Bette nodded “This means a hell of a lot to Tina. She’s suffered a lot – more than she should have and all I want for her is that she is happy. I know that she is happy now and so is Angie – her happiness is critical for me. I love her and I don’t want anything that will damage her or upset her. I know that you and Jack want to be part of her life and I know that spending time with the two of you is making her happy. This is the start of a long journey for all of us – I know that the two of you want to be a part of Tina and Angie’s life”

    Bette smiled
    “I don’t remember my mom and that’s something that bothers me – so to see Tina with you and to have Angie knowing both of you – that’s something I want for them as well as for me. So please come to our wedding – it’s what Tina wants and it’s what I want as well “
