    CHAPTER 94

“So what are you and your dad going to get up to?” Bette asked as she brushed her hair out as she got ready to go to work. Tina had got up early and made eggs for the three of them. It was a nice relaxed family breakfast that they didn’t usually have during the week but Tina’s early start meant that no one was rushing anywhere – so they had talked and laughed. Finally Angie had gone to get her jacket and bag and Bette was just making sure that her hair was right before she headed off to the gallery.
    “I don’t know “
Bette looked at Tina through the mirror – the blonde was idly stirring her coffee. Bette put the hair brush down and went and sat back at the table
    “What’s up?”
“What makes you think that there is anything up?”
“Because there is no coffee in that cup for you to stir – and you don’t use sugar in your coffee anyway “
Tina looked at the spoon in her hand almost as if she had seen it for the first time. She smiled at Bette
“You can be really annoying do you know that?”
“I do – you tell me it about once or twice a month”
“Remind me to tell you more often “
“I will” Bette took Tina’s hand and kissed it “What’s the matter?”
“It’s just been a long time since I spent time alone with my dad “
“Same could have been said of you and your mom up to a few weeks ago”
Tina sighed “I guess it’s just another one of the obstacles that I have to get over”
“Things have been okay with him right?”
“Yes – he’s brilliant. So philosophical after everything that has happened to him. It’s just”
“This is the first time the two of you will have been alone”
Tina nodded “I just hope we find things to talk about “
“I think it’s no bad thing to have left this solo conversation to the last. In a way everything that happened was all rooted in your relationship with him “
Tina sighed “Have I mentioned that you are annoying?”
“Once or twice “Bette lent over and kissed Tina on the lips “It will be fine. You have all got over bigger hurdles that this one. Why don’t the two of you go shopping for something nice for your mom “
Tina rested her hand on Bette’s face “Thank you “
Bette smiled “I will settle for you not finding me so annoying”
    Tina kissed her again
“Are you and granddad going to come and take me for lunch? You won’t forget “
“You are impossible to forget my darling “
“That’s good “Angie beamed “Have you told my teacher?”
“I mentioned it on Monday but I will tell her again today “
    “Okay – are we going?”
“Good idea “Tina got up, grabbed her fleece and put it on and zipped it up.
Bette took her coat and quickly got ready to walk with Tina and Angie to school before she headed to the gallery. She had meetings and private showings all day so she wasn’t going to be able to be a part of the meeting with Tina’s dad. Bette thought privately that it was no bad thing. Tina and Jack probably still had things to discuss father to daughter and they didn’t need anyone around to be a part of that conversation.
