    Out of Closet (B&T time-travel romance), Ch. 25

    Tina didn’t see Bette after she went to the newspaper section and was startled when Bette quietly approached her and said with some tension in her voice, “Tina, I would like to go home now.”

    “Of course Bette, if you want,” Tina answered, taken by surprise but willing to comply with anything that Bette asked for.

    They drove home in silence and Tina kept stealing glances at Bette, trying to figure out what happened to her. Bette closed her eyes as soon as they got into Tina’s car and Tina didn’t know what to do or what to say to make Bette feel better. Tina gently put her hand on top of Bette’s and sighed happily when Bette didn’t attempt to move her hand away but held on to it tightly.

    ~~~~~~~~
    Bette woke in the middle of the night from another nightmare feeling cold sweat all over her body. She opened her eyes and stared at the ceiling, trying to remember her dream.
    ‘She saw her and Tina lying in bed together in their home and suddenly the house became flooded. They were completely under water and Bette felt that there was not enough oxygen for the both of them. She was lying in the darkness and listened to their breathing. She never thought about it this way but Bette suddenly realized that it was as if they shared one breath together… as if they were one. Bette tried to stop breathing so that for a moment she could provide Tina with the air that she needed. Tina was asleep and didn’t know that they were under water. They breathed together as one and had the same rhythm and pace…they were so in tune with each other. This is when Bette realized that they belonged together.’
    Bette didn’t know what time it was when she woke up but this realization made her burn with desire to go to Tina’s room and ask to be held and comforted. Bette didn’t need words or promises. She only wanted to reach out to Tina and feel safe and loved.
    ‘I can’t do this. I’m not ready and I don’t know how Tina would feel about me coming to her bedroom uninvited, in the middle of the night,’ Bette thought, lying motionless in bed and fighting her tears.
