“Tina,” she asked loudly, “What is TV series pilot?”

“Why do you want to know?” Tina asked, appearing in the living room wearing an apron that has ‘Caution, I can go from Hostess to Bitch in 3 sec’ written on it.

Bette’s eyes widened in shock when she read it. Tina glanced at the apron and laughed, “Bette, this is just a joke…relax. Usually it takes me longer than that to turn into a bitch,” she finished with a wink.

Bette blushed at her naiveté and laughed as well, shaking her head, “See, Tina…just as I told you this morning…I can’t ever be bored with you.”

“So, movie pilot,” Tina asked again when they both stopped laughing, “Usually, when somebody has an idea for a TV series they write a script for a pilot, or for the first introductory episode that’s designed to attract sponsors or a TV station for a contemplated TV series. If the pilot is successful and draws a large audience then the series is launched. There are many pilots and series that TV networks won’t pick up and the pilot is the only part that was filmed. Why do you ask?”

“You have a stack of tapes here that says ‘TV series pilot’ and I didn’t know what it was.”

“I work with a lot of scripts and pilots and sometimes I bring them home so I can re-watch scenes, if necessary, to make a final judgment.”

“Is this one any good?” Bette showed her one of the tapes.

“‘Nikki and Nora’?” Tina looked at the tape and nodded, “It’s about two female cops in New Orleans who are also lovers. It’s more about solving crimes than anything. It didn’t get a pickup when United Paramount Network announced its fall season last year but it could have been an interesting TV show. You can watch it while I’m cooking if you want.”

Tina put the tape in her VCR for Bette to watch and returned to the kitchen. She was busy with their dinner but tried to pay attention to the sounds in the living room. To her surprise, it was pretty quiet in there and when Tina finally went to check on Bette, she found her dozing off on a couch.
