Planet Terror: Little Shop of Horrors

Alice led the jeep as they made their way toward the hardware store.

When they arrived, the streets were eerily quiet, though it was sunny and hot.

“The infected must not like the heat.” Bette said quietly to Lara as she turned off their engines. They were careful to park their vehicles backward in case they had to make a quick getaway.

“Awww fuck, guys. This isn’t good.” Alice pointed her gun toward the door to the hardware store. Home Hardware looked as though it had survived a war and barely lived to tell the tale.

“This door is barricaded from inside. And no one broke in from here. And no one could have gotten out.” Bette sighed. “This isn’t going to be very much fucking fun.”

“Yeah.” Alice agreed worridly. “We could go in to find the entire staff, or maybe more people. They could be dead, or infected and totally fucking starving.”

“Better if they’re dead.” Lara said. She bit her lip, then pulled Alice closer. Kneeling down, she used her sleeve to wipe at the window and look inside. “Nothing so far.” She said. “I can’t see anybody walking around. Just a lot of shelves with junk on them.”

They had to use tire irons from the car to open the door and remove the boards that had been nailed against it.

Glass, dust, and chips of wood covered the floor.

“Wait.” Bette held out her arms. She pointed ahead and raised her gun.

Splashes and smears of blood covered the front checkout counter. They walked carefully toward the register.

“gmhhh!” Bette had to clamp her hand to her mouth to keep from vomiting.

“Oh fuck, oh fucking fuck.” Alice gagged, looking at a body that had nearly disintegrated. The front half of the skull of the infected was still animated. It grinned and screamed at them when they saw it. Lara quickly stepped forward and neatly put one shot through what was left of it.

    Footsteps rushed from the backroom.

“DOWN!” Bette shouted. They knelt and shot at three of the infected as they screamed and frothed and tore toward them, leaping between shelves and over obstacles. They had barely managed to kill these three, when two more showed up at the front entrance of the store.

    1. I just managed to get caught up with this. By all rights, it shouldn’t be half as captivating as it is, since it’s pretty strange…but I fucking LOVE it. I guess that speaks more for my own morbidity than it does anything else, but I’m really enjoying this. I may not make a hell of a lot of sense, but it’s still well done. I’m glad you’re still continuing it.

    2. I thought Al was done for… And although that was quite tastefully done, that’s about all the Tina I want to see in this story. Ace chapter… Now I’ll have to skive some more and read Life Happens. Thanks

    3. Ew, gouging out of eyes, I agree, I thought Al was done for, you’re mischievous when it comes to Tina, but you know that! I’m glad Al’s ok … stop scaring us like that, ok, don’t stop, cos then it wouldn’t be PT, but you know what I mean … grr .. hehe

    4. Un menage a trois? Mon Dieu! Took you long enough, I was considering sending another scolding your way. Death as an existance on an alternate plane? Philosophy on top of schlock horror? Get you, helebette. OK, so what’s the deal with Tina? Is she really from another plane or just the product of dream stuff? Is there a difference between the two? And what’s with the zombies getting stronger and smarter with time?

    5. Quelle nail-biter. I really hope Alice doesn’t end up zombified or dead. Zombification is a natural fit for Jenny, but Alice functions best as a human being. Not to mention that taking her out of the picture would deprive the survivors of some much-needed comic relief. LOVE the shopping-mall setting, with its Dawn of the Dead overtones (original version I hope).
