Shane and Molly: A Love Story – Chapter 17

Shane watches Molly leave and then turns towards Carmen. “What is your fucking problem?”

“I just felt like it was my duty to warn your precious little Molly what a creep you really are,” Carmen bites back. “You’re incapable of monogamy and commitment and you’re just going to break her heart.”

“Listen to me, Carmen,” Shane says as she gets very close to her. “You stay away from Molly, you understand?”

“Unlike you Shane, I don’t make promises I can’t keep,” Carmen says, as she walks away from Shane.

“I mean it, Carmen. Leave her alone,” Shane yells after her. Without turning around to face Shane, Carmen flips her the bird and saunters out of The Planet. “Fuck me,” Shane mutters to herself as she runs her fingers through her hair. “Fuck. me.” She turns on her heel and heads out the door to go find Molly.

She walks along the sidewalk with a sour expression on her face. This was the last thing that she needed today. She was already nervous enough because she was meeting Leonard and Sophie for the first time, but seeing Carmen again completely unnerved her. She couldn’t believe how much resentment she still harbored and was very afraid that she would try to ruin their wedding by scaring Molly. As she rounded the corner of the street where she had parked, she catches a glimpse of Molly sitting in the Jeep, her head pushed back against the headrest, eyes closed, taking a deep breath. As much as Molly would never admit it, Shane knew that deep down Carmen had gotten to Molly, which worried her.

“Hey, baby,” Shane says, somewhat apologetically, as she leans against the passenger door. “I’m so sorry that happened.”

“It’s not your fault,” Molly says, trying to alleviate Shane’s guilt.

Shane lifts her hand to Molly’s face and says, “Don’t listen to her. Carmen and I were never meant to be. That’s why it didn’t happen.” She pauses, but then continues, “I’ve changed since then. I’ve grown up. I’m ready now. I love you and we are going to be married.”

Molly smiles weakly. “I know,” she says. “I know she’s just being vindictive.”

Shane leans in the window and kisses Molly tenderly. She jogs around to the driver’s side, hops into the Jeep and turns on the ignition. Taking Molly’s hand and bringing it to her lips, she kisses it, and says, “We have some time to kill before we head off to the airport. Where to, beautiful?”
