Sunday Mornings: 1 – Ten years younger …
Tina blushed and hid her face, turning away in coy retreat before launching herself forwards to wrap her arms around Bette’s neck tightly, “How could I work when you left me like *that* … I’ve been thinking of you babe …”
Looking back on it then, their weekends together as a young couple were punctuated by Bette’s lifestyle, the rush of exhilaration she felt as Bette gave her undivided attention for a couple of hours, ensuring by the end of it Tina could do no more than weakly utter her name before dashing out the door to a meeting or sale, leaving her dazed, confused and in a dream like state.
And Bette’s assertion of her power stayed, neatly packaging her life into labelled compartments,
“Tee …” Bette prompted her quietly, pulling her away from her neck,
Through a muffled, contented sigh Tina mumbled, “Yeah …”
“Tee, I’ve been offered a job,”
“A job?”
Bette nodded, smiling in the hope that she’d smile back in return,
Tina cocked her head to one side, “What kind of job?”
Bette ran ahead, gushing with pride at having been actively sought for the post, “It’s fantastic, it’s at this progressive new gallery in town, the CAC, it’s more hours than I’m used to and I suppose the travelling isn’t the best but it’s twice as much as I’m making now and I’ll get the chance to do something incredible that everyone’s after …”
Her voice trailed off, looking to Tina for some dim flicker of enthusiasm,
Tina smiled half-heartedly, “That’s fantastic babe …”
“You don’t think I should take it?”
Deep inside, Tina swallowed her disappointment, unable to say that she missed her already as it was, “Of course you should take it baby,” she gushed, kissing her lovingly on the cheek, “you deserve this,”
Bette grinned, “I have worked hard for it,”
Tina nodded,
Her hands around Tina’s waist she pulled her close, sighing with contentment at her own form of inner peace, “Let’s go out and celebrate …”
Tina groaned, “I can’t babe … I have to read this script,”
But her excuses were futile and Bette wouldn’t rest until they were toasting the promotion of a lifetime with a bottle of ’95 champagne, from the year they met …
Unseen by Bette, Tina mouthed silently, ‘she’s our daughter …’, half envious and half feeling sorry for Jodi, almost willing to stake everything they had on the fact that it wouldn’t last,
She stepped from the pool, her arms barely covering the parts where her top had been as she avoided looking to see if Bette snuck a quick peek,
“I’ve got to go,” she muttered quickly, wrapping a towel around herself, “we’re going to see Helena,”
“Would you do it again?” Bette asked, stopping her in her tracks, she tapped the well-tortured pencil against her lap, thinking the question over, “if you had to choose … between doing it all over, the bars, the hangovers, the parties and promotions, or saying to hell with it all and erasing the slate completely clean, what would you do?”
Tina perched at the bottom of the chair where she sat, unable to recall the number of times she’d done that exact same thing, “I wouldn’t change a thing Bette,” she replied honestly, believing it to be the truth,
If Jodi was what it took to exercise the part of her that strove to be the best, then she would wait.
paint a picture with my hands,
back and forth we sway like branches in a storm.
Change the weather, still together when it ends …

that was really beautiful sweety…it made me think a lot…like, its harder sometimes to live our own stories as best we can, than to want so much for a story that was never meant to be. i see your point about b ‘n t…how they could find themselves in an entirely new and interesting place by season’s end, once all has been accepted. you’re on a roll babe;) xo
Interesting take on the pool scene sofa. Takes us to that new place for b and t.
Ooh, new fic! I like your take on their past, and I think they’re in a better place now than when we first met Bette and Tina. As for them doing it over again, I don’t think they could change a thing, really, no matter how much they wish it all could have happened differently between them. Angelica redeems them and makes everything, as you wrote, worth it. Great start, I can’t wait to see ho it all unfolds. Nice one sofa, cheers!
I am interested in this different way of looking at their relationship. I am a huge TiBetter so I think I’ll like this twist on their story. PPS.
I haven’t been youtubing, but that conveyed the ambiguity and non-statedness typical of the show. I suppose there are times in life when one must wait until the time is ripe, but is a meaningful relationship possible when you keep what you mean to yourself? The chlorinated pool is far clearer.
What a fantastic idea. I like the title “Sunday Mornings.” You know they are the best mornings to lay lazily in bed with the one you love. This really was a lovely way of taking that pool scene and delving into it more, as well as adding that whole dimension of a decade. Wow…when you honestly look at how much can be accomplished or NOT in that period of time. Beautiful as always Sofa. Thanks!
Very cool, I love the flashbacks and can only hope that they make Bette and Tina both realize how truly right they are for one another. (Well, I guess at the moment we just need to work on Bette. LOL)
I concur with helebette:-) You are totally on a roll!
Interesting to see both of them reflect on how their life used to be, good idea!
I think I’m going to like Sunday mornings! Nicely written and I loved Tina’s answer at the end. I.C. likes the drama….I like the sentimentality that you bring to the story.
I so want more of this…
Interesting. I can see the look that both Bette and Tina gave each other while out in the pool. Bette kept trying not to look and she was clearly affected by Tina floating around in the pool. I can’t wait for more of this coming from you. Are you still going to write more on your Tibette stories?
Very nice. Definitely on a roll :-)
Nice start… we have not really seen any flash backs in the actual show of Tina and Bette other than very quickly when they met… It would have been nice to see what the 8 years had really been like for both of them. So your version of that is excellent,I am looking forward to Sunday mornings now :-)
thank you for writing a new one… and of B&T! It’s lovely, pls continue soon.
This is intersting but like it. Please post more, thanks!
Im loving this, season 5 was the best and anything written about it is just awesome. Oh and that pool scene was nice especially seeing little Angelica
