The Adventures Of Bette Porter And Sissee Gardner Schmidt After Howie (Part 1, Chapter 10)
PART ONE: SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA
Chapter 10
No one answered Bette’s knock. She knocked again. No answer. She slowly turned the knob and peered inside. She saw her sister sitting at her desk with a bottle of Smirnoff Vodka placed in front of her next to an empty double shot glass.
“Kit?”
No answer,
Bette turned and shut the door behind her and then slowly walked to the desk. She stood in front of it with her head tilted, hoping for a response. Kit had her dark hair pulled back with strands hanging loosely on the sides. She was wearing dangling drop earrings that matched her dress of blazing rainbow colors. Her plunging neckline revealed her ample cleavage.
Bette said her name again, “Kit?”
Kit was staring at the shot glass with trembling hands along side it. In a low, monotone voice she spoke without looking up. “What’re you doin’ here?”
“I came to see you.”
“What for?”
“We need to talk.” There was a chair on Bette’s side of the desk and she asked if she could sit down.
“Fuck you,” was Kit’s cold reply.
Bette was trying to figure out if Kit was drunk and contemplating her next drink or if she was sober and tempted to drink but trying hard not to.
She sat down and pulled the chair as close to the desk as she could.
“What are you doing Kit?”
No answer.
“Kit?”
A moment passed and then Kit said, “I got the heebee jeebees if you wanna know.”
“What do you mean?”
“Put two live wires together and that’s how my whole body feels.”
“More booze isn’t going to help.”
“I been sober for two days now but I need a drink so bad I feel like a stick a dynamite ready to explode.”
“How can I help you?”
“You can‘t,” said Kit, finally looking at her.
“Where’s Angus?”
“San Diego. His aunt died.”
“Have you been going to AA meetings?”
“Yeah.”
“Does he go with you?”
“Yeah.”
“Do you want me to go with you?.”
“No.”
“When’s the next meeting?”
“At seven.”
“Don’t you have someone from AA to call when you’re feeling this way?”

well, well, well…sissee, though i have been reading stories on this site for a couple of years now i’ve never tried yours, however, it was a slow day last week for my fave writers so i gave yours a try and i’m sooooo glad i did, it.is.brilliant!! i’m gutted now because i’m upto date and have to wait for your updates, boo! you’ve managed to do the unthinkable and actually have me rooting for someone other than tina for bette (me being a loyal tibetter) i love the way you write bette and back at the beginning when bette ended it when sissee was pregnant was heart wrenching…so glad you made sissee really work to get our bette back! anyway just wanted you to know you have a new fan and please, please, please keep your updates regular!!!
Can’t wait for the making up something something between B & S! They deserve to be together and the arguement in the morning about Jodie cannot break up their connection. They are two solid individuals who need each other in times of needs and love :-)

The dialogue between Bette and Kit was outstanding. You really captured the essence of this sister relationship. Excellent chapter and I loved the banter between SGS and BP.

Like mush 1912 I read your story by accident. I started with the Hawaiian chapters which resulted in a night without much sleeep. I read your story from the beginning and was fascinated. It is a pity that your story does’t get the attention it is worth. It’s one of my favourite stories. I am from Germany and my English is not perfect, but I wanted to say thanks for the wonderful story.

Mush1912, It’s nice to know that you thought enough of this story to get sleep deprived.. I hope you are all caught up. As for this story getting more attention, I don’t know how. The only outside hook I have to bring readers in is the plot summary and I do my best to attract attention there. Thanks for your concern though and if you have any good promotional ideas, please let me know.

i sympathise jurefesa – i had a few nights where i was thinking i’ll just read one more chapter before i go to bed…2 hrs later still reading, damn sissee for making the story so addictive and i totally agree about it not getting the attention it deserves, we’ll have to get an ad on the site and tell people to read it!! btw sissee…a post would be nice????!!!
