The Dying of the Light Part 24
He imagined freedom, the taste of the salt air and sunlight bathing him from the heavens. Rain, and glorious wind washing away the keep and the dust that caked their bodies.
Imagined while their souls are locked away in the underground like the very labyrinth that lead them here.
His father had prayed, as if the gods listened, and waited for our rescue quietly. Stoically. In all the years he had known his father, he never smiled. Now, he never spoke to anyone but the imaginings of the gods.
There was a time he wanted to be like his father, now in the vast emptiness he is.
Whispers of pains tingled his fingers like an energy, restless, cold and angry. Like blood, flowing down the empty corridors and into the room where the walls breath the very air from their lungs. Robbed, in the vacuous neverland where no one could listen but the haunted bricks that lined to halls.
They moved her again to a new room in a new wing. It didn’t matter where they moved her too, life still happened, there was no expectation of stopping it, no way she could find – and she had looked.
Blood pumped, beat after beat and cruel and vicious reminder of her failure. At a young age she learnt that success meant love, acceptance. Life was granted to a success; a failure lost everything. Loss is all that was left.
No family. No friends. Nothing.
3 Days Later
Bette sat by the window, bathed in a warming light. It didn’t matter, she still felt cold. The outside world felt millions of miles away, like the face on Mars. It was beautiful, but couldn’t be touched by human hands. Shouldn’t be touched by hers.
Yesterday was the first day she felt like getting out of bed; leaving behind the safety of her cocoon. The light in the room mesmerised her, called to her. For hours she sat there, marvelling at the people, walking, talking. Interacting with the world that she had grown to fear.
Shane had come for a visit, bringing stories of the rest of the ‘family’. Closing her eyes, the words washed over her. Not a word was heard, but to have someone come to talk to her; she didn’t know what she did to deserve it, but she didn’t have the strength to turn it away.

Hi there, dear sweet Deean! Our nephew JC informed us you were in the Spotlight this week. We will make sure to join you over there, tonight. As for the story, we knew Shane was not going to curl and go hiding, leaving Bette alone. She knows her friend needs more that soft words. The assurance that she will not leave, no matter what, is exactly what Bette needs. Plus, know that she deserves to be taken care of by one of her loyal friends. Yep. Excellent choice. We are sure that Shane will make Bette to exteriorize those ugly demons that are playing games with her self esteem. Great update, dearest friend. PPS Hugs & kisses on both your cheeks.- Lucero & Marsha (Proud Salsa Aunties to the ever loving JC and Eunichick and Tias Adoradas to Patpez)
SO powerful amazing!!!:)PPS
That was powerful! Shane is just the person to break Bette out of her slump! PPS
This chap made me cry too. It’s like I really feel Bette’s pain too. I’m glad Shane has a thick skin and didn’t fall for Bette’s plan to get rid of her. I only hope Shane can get Bette to see she’s loved so much by the rest of the family and they need her back with them. PPS!!
It was certainly worth it to wait through the downloads, and listening of ads to read this.. Thanks
I juat finished reading this story and it is just amazing, the depth, the use of laungage, the dialogues are simply fantastic. I work with people with depression and I can see how accurately u portray Bette with this problem.i have read ur other stories too n they r just as good. pls PPVS
