The Dying of the Light Part 26
Helena flopped on the bed, dislodging a couple of carefully folded shirts and underwear. “Is that everything?” She asked, throwing an arm over her eyes.
It had been a long and active day, not one that she was used too. Every time that she had moved in the past, she or her mother had hired movers to pack, move and unpack for her. The offer had been given for the same thing to happen here, but it was politely declined.
Smiling from under a head full of curls, the brunette had answered “Yup.” Yawning, she rubbed her eyes. She was as exhausted as Helena, and it’d had been a good many months since she had exerted any type of energy like she had today. Not that she had done much, her dear friends had completed much of the work. Being a supervisor was hard work, as was unpacking her boxes slowly.
Carefully, she shifted her position on the floor so she could rest her back against the bed. “Thank you Helena.”
“For what?” Came the incredulous cry. Throwing her arm from her eyes she launched herself off the bed. Her arm became caught in a misplaced bra, she cried out as she found herself haphazardly falling off the bed, nearly taking out the subject of her enquiry.
Jumping at the cry, the woman moved the steady the woman and instead she was elbowed in the face, sending them both crashing to the floor.
“Fuck.” The brunette groaned, pulling herself gingerly from the tangle of limbs, “grace, thy name is not Helena Peabody.”
Helena snorted, trying to right herself. “Welcome home Bette.” She laughed.
“Bette, why don’t you start.” Natalie prompted. There was a weight in this room, born of years of miscommunication and pain, and it told Natalie that this was not going to be an easy session. Her hope was that it could bring some peace, and a starting place for the women to start real communication and hopefully work towards being mothers to their daughter.
She’d been surprised when she had escorted Tina into the room that Tina had decided to commandeer a chair and move it so she was sitting opposite Bette, guaranteeing that Bette would have to look to her at some point. It was assertive as much as it was aggressive, and Natalie could see that this method of confrontation could end badly.

Jackie 1, is right, despair is the greater enemy. This is so sad to read and I just wanted Tina to hold her and tell her that she had not let them down. I can’t believe that the story is almost done, with so much more for them to do. Thanks for posting.
WOW as always I am in awe! if this part isn’t great then I’d like to see what you think is great! You’re writing hits a place in my heart that is familiar yet so far away from me now. This story is amazingly heart breaking. Your talent is incredible… As a writer to allow yourself to be put in this scary shocking sad world is an amazing feat! you’re beautiful! I’m sad to see it end but I hope that in the end Bette is able to see just a sliver of hope perhaps in the eyes of her daughter. you’re amazing thank you thank you thank you for sharing this story!
this heart breaking. i hope bette finally gets it! :)PPS
Hi,dear sweet Deean! Holy wow! This was quite the confrontation we expected, when Tina would face Bette. No doubt that Bette is not ready yet, because she is just coming out of the darkness where she had been for years. Her loud claim as a mother was completely comprehensive. Tina took that right away from Bette for the longest time. However, it is true that Bette would need baby steps to be in the safe place where she will be able to be part of her daughter’s life. The meeting was illustrating for the therapist. She got lots of clues and now knows where she should work further. As for Tina, we don’t think she should give up on trying to work things with Bette, although it is not going to be an easy task. As for Shane coming in again to the rescue, we are glad that Bette still relies on her. She has done a superb job with her. Thanks for this magnificent update, although it was very hard to read.
