The Gathering 01.57 – The Gathering ReDux – Pt. 5

“Ok, ok.  Relax, just do it.”  She pulled off the apron and threw it at Sam, feeling lonely in the kitchen during after hours, used to the hustle and bustle that usually occupied the large stainless steal ridden room.

Sam worked without the big lighting crews; she took natural light photos like other photographers took well lit ones, with ease.

“Are you going to go change?”  Sam asked, rather innocently.  Almost wanting to ask if she’d like help with changing clothes, but Sam said nothing instead.

“You have to get me in civvies?”  Sam shook her head, loving the way she spoke.

“Yes, at least I do if I wanna get paid.  I’ll wait for you outside?”  Lara nodded and darted off to change.

Sam sat outside on the perfectly manicured lawn, reloading her camera.  She swapped lenses and took a light reading, setting the ISO speed and looking up just in time to see Lara coming out.  A pair of sunglasses perched on her head, pushing back her hair; Sam snapped the shutter and caught her looking to and fro for Sam.  She saw her, and walked over.

“Are you going to take pictures sitting there like that?”  Sam nodded, patting the ground and Lara sat down next to her.

“Why did you become a chef?”  Sam asked, standing up and walking around Lara, who leaned back and answered.

“I love food, not just the way it taste, but the way it feels.  I love the look on peoples faces when the bite into something and it taste different from what the expected, that look of joy and the way the savor each morsel.”  Lara explained, Sam snapping more pictures as she spoke.

“So you have a passion for it.”  Lara laughed, nodding.

“Among other things, and you, why do you take pictures?  No one to help you, just you and your camera.  I asked around, and I hear you are really good, but dropped out of site for a while.  Quid Pro Quo.”  Sam shook her head, adjusting her baseball cap again.

“Yes Sir Hannibal.  I have another job, this is my hobby.  I like being alone, I use to have a partner, but she passed away.”  Holding the camera at a lower level and snapping a few more shots of Lara‘s reaction.

                “Sorry to hear that…”

“S’ok, I miss her, but C.J. and I had our time.  What are you doing tonight?  I have some pictures to take of the city, want to come along?”

    1. Thought Bette would lie this time around. Since everything seems to be going almost the same, does the ‘what if’ belong to a specific person? Sam or Tina perhaps? They are the only two who’s life seems to be altered a bit.

    2. I don’t know J, it seems that you are going for a Tina/Sam relationship..hmph, I liked Shane/Sam. But I’m giving you the benefit of the doubt and read on.
