The Gathering 01.57 – The Gathering ReDux – Pt. 5

“No it’s not like that, Oscar called and we have a sort of emergency at the Center, and I wasn’t sure if I would make it on time.  I thought I’d make it up to you and cook you breakfast, surprise you.”  Tina spoke quickly, wanting to explain.

Bette was stunned; she stood up and watched as Tina made her a plate.  Bacon, eggs over easy, toast with fresh strawberry jam and pancakes with a large glass of freshly squeezed orange juice.  It was her favorite breakfast and they rarely had time before the breakup for this sort of extravagance.  Tina turned and put the plate on the table and she pulled out the chair for Bette.  Bette walked to the chair, a smile breaking her serious face.

“You are so sweet, but you didn’t need to do this.  I should be the one cooking you breakfast and pampering you.”  Sitting down and looking at Tina in awe.  Had Tina really forgiven her so easily?  She knew in her heart that she hadn’t, but this felt so good that she wasn’t going to let the doubts get the best of her.  Tina grabbed a plate and served herself, sitting down with Bette.

“I felt bad, because I really thought we should go out on this date thing.  We have a lot to talk about.”  Tina took a deep breath, and ventured into the fray.

“Candace…”  Bette stopped eating; her hand began to shake as she held the fork with a piece of egg bouncing on it.

“Oh Tee.”  She’d known it was too good to be true.

“There are some things I need to know.”  Bette‘s whole body shook violently, scared of what was to come.

“I.. Umm..  Oh…”  Tina‘s serious face twisted as she summoned the courage to ask the questions that plagued her in the wee hours of the morning when sleep failed her.

“Did you two sleep together?  Or was it just the flirting and those touches?”  Bette felt her stomach churning and she felt her breakfast coming up.  She darted from the table, her hand over her mouth as she ran into the small toilet off the living room.

    Comments

    1. Thought Bette would lie this time around. Since everything seems to be going almost the same, does the ‘what if’ belong to a specific person? Sam or Tina perhaps? They are the only two who’s life seems to be altered a bit.

    2. I don’t know J, it seems that you are going for a Tina/Sam relationship..hmph, I liked Shane/Sam. But I’m giving you the benefit of the doubt and read on.
