The Gathering 01.57 – The Gathering ReDux – Pt. 5

She took a long, deep breath when she heard something in the kitchen.  She froze.  Her eyes snapping open, she reached under the bed as quietly as she could.  Pulling the baseball bat gingerly out from under the bed.  Tossing the covers aside and putting her bare feet on the floor, trying not to make any noise.  Her breaths came quick and in short bursts, pressing against the wall as she made her way to the noise; it seemed to be coming from her kitchen still.

Brandishing the bat she saw a shadow moving and more clattering and a soft swear.  Bette stepped into the room, letting out a primal yell and swinging the heavy bat.  She missed the intruder who ducked and screamed.

“BETTE!!!”  Tina screamed, throwing herself to the floor.  Bette stopped and tossed the bat aside, falling to her knees and grabbing Tina and hugging her.

“Tee!”  Tina hugged her back and Bette kissed her cheek.

“I was cooking you breakfast, I used my key.  I’m so sorry I scared you babe.”  Tina said, grabbing both sides of her face, seeing tears in Bette‘s eyes.  Not having meant to scare her, but surprise her.

“I could have killed you, you scared me so much.”  They both stopped, and started to laugh at the situation.  Both collapsing in fits of laughter, holding one another at the whole awkwardness of the events.

“The pancakes!”  Tina shot up from the floor and pulled the pan from the burner, tossing the burnt pancake into the sink.  Bette sat on the floor, crossing her legs and watching Tina making her breakfast.  The mere sight of her in their kitchen filled Bette with joy and hope of what may come.

“What is the occasion?”   She scooted back and leaned against the bar.  Tina took a deep breath, biting her lip as she flipped the pancake and turning the bacon also.

“I have to cancel our date.”  Bette‘s smile faded, she quickly thought that maybe yesterday evening hadn’t gone as well as she’d thought.

“Oh, that’s ok.”  Bette tried to keep the disappointment out of her voice, she didn’t move from her spot on the floor.  She didn’t think she could, she inhaled sharply.

    1. Thought Bette would lie this time around. Since everything seems to be going almost the same, does the ‘what if’ belong to a specific person? Sam or Tina perhaps? They are the only two who’s life seems to be altered a bit.

    2. I don’t know J, it seems that you are going for a Tina/Sam relationship..hmph, I liked Shane/Sam. But I’m giving you the benefit of the doubt and read on.
