    The Gathering 01.74 – Turbulence pt 3 – Nightfall

She’d taken a day off from the CAC not a great move being that her contract was up in a few months, but she didn’t much care.  Bette was refocusing her life; away from work and where the spot light should have been all along, on Tina and their life as a couple.

She was planning a nice dinner for Tina and she wanted it to be perfect.  She got up, and went into the kitchen, once again glancing at the phone.  Why was her heart hung up on this suddenly?  She grunted to herself and sighed, turning the oven on and preheating it.

Kit came into the house just then, smiling at her little sister and seeing her getting ready to start cooking.  A very rare event in this house, so Kit was making a total mental note of it.

“Well aren’t you the romantic tonight, cooking the little woman a nice home cooked meal?  What has gotten into you Bette?  Did someone kidnap my sister and leave behind a Stepford wife?”  Kit asked, going to the refrigerator and grabbing a cold bottle of water.  She saw how tense Bette was and stopped being so playful.

“Bette?”  She saw her shoulders shaking and Kit turned Bette around; seeing fresh tears spilling from her ebony eyes.  Kit pulled her into a hug, and said softly.

“Baby sister what is it?”  Bette thought she was being silly; and she wiped the tears away.

“Melvin.  He’s just grating on my nerves.  He laid into me about Tina, the show…”  Kit scoffed and felt like punching something, mainly Melvin.

“*****.”  Kit spit, and Bette sighed turning back to what she was doing, trying desperately to get her mind off of what was bothering her.  She knew that Melvin thought of her as the perfect child, but if he did, then why did he always harp on everything she did?

“Kit he’s just, well he’s just Melvin.  I guess I’m not his precious little girl anymore am I?”  Kit laughed softly and hugged Bette again.

“I am hopping into the shower because I have a date tonight.  Quite worrying about Melvin; he fights his own demons and we get the brunt of that back lash.”  Kit said, smiling rather brightly and Bette started slicing the onions.
