    The Gathering 01.74 – Turbulence pt 3 – Nightfall

“Where are you and Mr. Summers off too on this lovely night?”  Kit grinned; leaning on the bar and looked at Bette.

“We are going to this seafood place he found, I’m going to see if I can net me a big old Maine lobster.”  Bette laughed; and loved to see Kit so happy.

“Well big sister, have a few bites for me.”

                “I sure as ***** will.”

    *****

The cell phone that she’d brought with her in case there was an emergency was ringing, and Sam sighed internally.  Peace that was what she wanted, peace with her woman.

They were sitting on the bow of the sail boat that they’d rented for the week, the wind whipping their hair back.  Staring into the sun and relaxing in each other’s arms.  Sam sat behind Shane, holding her and they were talking about what they would do when they got home in three days.

“Don’t answer it.”  Shane begged with her little girl voice that Sam liked so much, looking over her shoulder and kissing Sam.  Sam muttered to her, hating that she was being the adult.

“It’s an emergency, Marty knows better than to have given this number out.  What if something happened to one of the girls?  Hmmm?”  Sam dug it out of her sweat shirt pocket and answered the satellite cell phone.

“I don’t even wanna know what one of those things cost a minute.”  Sam laughed and said into the phone.

“***** instructions, we charge by the *****.  How can I help you?”  There was silence on the phone and Sam repeated, “Hello?”

“Sam?  I’m taking it you are having fun?  ***** instructions huh, well I know you’re an expert.  I’m sorry to have to call you.”  Tina‘s voice came over the gritty connection, the delay evident and Sam waited for a moment.

“Tina, what happened?”  A long pause again and Sam waited, getting a sinking feeling at the pit of her stomach.

“You need to call Brian he called me looking for you.  He sounded, well for lack of a better word, quietly contemplating.”  Sam‘s face was serious enough for Shane to start to grow concerned.
