    Chapter 19

    “Mom what’s happening” Lizzie asked alarmed, passing the child to Dana who in turn passed him to Helena who escorted both children out of the bedroom bumping into Al returning with Shane in tow.

    Shane looked horrified at the scene in front of her Tina laying still, covered in blood, there was that much she had no idea where it had originated from. The strong nudge that Al gave her from behind pushed her into action, stealing a quick glance at Bette, the thought that she would indeed kill her if this was a bad as it looked before she took Tina’s pulse. It was weak but it was there. She quickly turned to Al “Help me get her to the car”

    “Shane?”

    “Bette, she’s alive but we need to get her to the hospital now”

    The short trip to the hospital, 10 minutes, confirmation of a brain bleed 28 minutes, the O.R. Team scrubbed and ready 45 minutes, trying to calm Bette to the point where she wasn’t demanding to be in the O.R would have taken an eternity and more time than Shane had, a compromise was reached reluctantly on both their parts.

    Shane kicked open the O.R doors her hands scrubbed and hung back while her hands were gloved just as the anaesthesiologist was finishing with her own special brand of numbing juice.

    “This is the last of the anaesthetic, from here on out you won’t feel a thing”

    Shane stepped into view, placing her hands on Tina’s shoulder “You ready” she asked trying to hide how nervous she was it was one thing operating on strangers but this was Tina lying on her table and although she was confident nothing would go wrong she couldn’t quite shake the butterflies in her stomach.

    Tina sighed in the absence of an ability to nod due to the brace that held her elevated head “How’s Bette Shane, she must be going crazy”

    Shane ignored the understatement of the century, instead pointed behind her.

    “Bette’s right up there in the gallery, look”

    Tina looked to where Shane was pointing, her heart sank, she could see how scared Bette was, her colour ashen, her palms pressed against the glass partition.

    3. Fantastic chapter. Their remembrances of their life together was really sweet and loving. Did I miss the heart attack part or did you just not write it for us. Then it was alright when Tina remembered Bette forgetting the shoes and Shane poking fun at them standing in the middle of a monsoon after their wedding vows. And now… Now I’m worried again. Tina’s just got to be okay. And you have got to post again soon. Thank you for this chapter, skimmer, I loved it! :)
