Somewhere between the Matrix and the Real World…
A phone rings, circuits and waves connecting two voices on the line.
“Is everything in order?” The woman who once single handedly took down the IRS mainframe holds tight to the phone in her hand. Why is she so nervous? She is merely guarding some crazy woman. Nothing the Oracle said could possibly be true, at least not the part that concerned her.
“You weren’t supposed to take my shift.” Cypher, who was once known as Mark Wayland, is antsy about the change in plans. He had plans of his own for the end of this shift. His hand hovers over a phone beside him, but he takes it away finally.
“I felt like it.” The brunette is growing annoyed. Beside her, her lover of ten years taps impatiently on the phone. ‘What’s his problem?’ she mouths.
“You like her, don’t you?” Cypher grins. A former punk with upward mobility issues, his smile had always creeped Helena’s girlfriend out just a little. Now the blonde adjusts her sunglasses and brushes off her white suit. She prepares to leave via another exit, reentering the Real World. They kiss quietly before Helena turns back to her conversation and she leaves.
“What?” She asks, too angrily. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Ah ha, the lady doth protest too much.” Cypher laughs like a weasel. “We’re going to kill her, you know.”
Helena sighs. “Morpheus believes she is the One.”
“But you don’t,”
Helena is silent for a moment. “It doesn’t matter what I believe.”
Something sounds on the line.
“Did you hear that?” Helena prepares to hang up. “This line isn’t clean. I have to go.”
It’s already too late. Helena hears the men running down the hallway. She rings Morpheus. “The line was tapped.” She says simply.
“Get out of there Trinity.” His voice holds just the right amount of panic, but not enough to throw her off her game.
“Focus Trinity…Go to Chavez and Castro, I’ll ring you there…That’s your exit.”
“Are there agents?”
“Yes.” He says.
“Shit…”
Behind her, the door bursts open. “LOS ANGELES POLICE, PUT YOUR HANDS IN THE AIR WHERE WE CAN SEE THEM!”

ok, I haven’t seen the Matrix but I love Bette and Helena being sexy and illegal and I love any fic where they have sexual tension and then getting hot and bothered and then getting busy!! Make it so hb!
I missed out on the Matrix movies too. If they’d starred JB and RS instead of Keanu Reeves I would have been a devoted fan. This Belena story is a terrific introduction to the Matrix experience.
Well, well. Wasn’t I saying something sometime about there being situations in which one needs to fight? I have utmost confidence in Trinity’s ability to rescue Acid Burn (pretty name!) from Smith and Jones, or Smith and Adams, or whomever. I mean she had zero problem turning the tables on those nice fellows from the LAPD, those civil rights ignoring, star-fucker wannabes. So get Bette an Avenging suit (oh, PLEASE helebette, do me an Avengers with Mrs. Peel story!), preferably leather, and let the games begin!

Hello HB, wow that was a fast turn around there, this was so very very cool, this whole set up is just freakin sweet. I cannot wait to see where you go with this one, some of the ideals and concepts you can bring into it are just out of this world cool. Then again I cannot wait for you to bring in your trademark Kinetic energy to the action sequences (Wink Wink), how can one join this Cult writer thingy, I want to be a cult writer too *pouts* This is amazing, Sincerely, JC

Helebette, been following your stories for awhile and i’m quite impressed. Not only is the Matrix series one of my favorites, but you threw in an essence of Hackers which is in my top 5 fav Angelina movies. There are so many places you can go with this story, I can’t wait to read what’s next. PPS!!!
