The L Word: Tina Kennard’s lost background

“T, are you sure about this?” Bette asked her partner one last time, before they would leave L.A for a little family trip to Tina’s relatives in Santa Maria.

“Absolutely…did you pack everything?” Tina asked in return.

“Yes, we’re ready to go…” Bette said, throwing the car keys at Tina.

“What’s that for?” Tina asked little puzzled. She had never drove Bette’s car, not even once during the whole time together.

“You’ll have to drive; I don’t know the rout…” Bette winked at her. She took Angie in her arms and placed her in the car seat, she smiled at the little girl and kissed her head.

They jumped in the car, letting down the roof because it was a nice and worm day. Bette set comfortable in the passenger seat, taking deep breath.

“It’s a very nice day today…maybe we can make a stop somewhere.”

“Yeah…it very sunny, I know the perfect place for rest. But you have to wait and see, because I’ll not say a word.”

    “Meany…” Bette chuckled

“Well…yeah, I’m” Tina said, chuckling too. Then she became serious. “Bette, listen there are things you don’t know about my past…about my family history…so if something look strange to you, just ask me ok…talk to me and I’ll try to explain as much as I can…ok?” Tina asked starting the car…

“Sure don’t worry about that…I love you, and I accept you the way you are, always…ok? You don’t have to explain me nothing…it’s not my business to ask about your family history, just like you never had been asked about my mother. I respect your privacy, and I’ll never cross that line…when you want to talk about it…I’m here, and I want you to know that…ok?” Bette replayed with smile. Tina leans and kissed her on the lips…

    “Thank you…”

    “You don’t have to tank me…we’re family…and that’s what family does…”

They were on the highway, heading to the small town, Bette was humming a song she was listening on the radio and Tina was laughing at her efforts to hit the right note. Let’s face it Bette is beautiful, talented and hot as hell but she isn’t the next American idol.

“Babe…if you don’t stop singing, the police will start chasing us…” Tina was laughing. She looked in the reveres mirror to check on Angie. She was fast asleep, not paying attention to the noise coming from the front seat.
