    The letter on the subway

She felt very hot all of a sudden and a blush spread to her face and neck.
Bette noticed the sudden change in her conversation partner when the blushing she was witnessing made her heart beat a little faster.
She spoke, "Miss Kennard….or may I call Tina?"
" Yes…certainly" Tina answered hastily. The blush still present on her face.
" I am not going to lie to you …but … You have impressed me…. And I am not usually someone,  one can impress this easily…. This is why I would very much like to offer you this post" Bette concluded standing up and extending her hand in welcome.
" Wow…thank you so very much… You will not be disappointed" Tina said accepting the hand offered to her.
Their hands touched and both women felt the same tingling jolt as palms and fingers locked. They held on longer than was necessary all the while holding each other’s gaze searchingly. They relished the contact of the other’s warm skin and almost felt a sense of loss when contact was finally released.
"Let me show you where your desk is and I will run through the list of your duties and ….well …..let’s just say I look forward to working with you, Tina." Bette was smiling uncontrollably.
That smile did nothing to control the beat of Tina’s heart.
A few moments later and with a newly appointed gallery assistant in post, the buzzer of the front door sounded.
Bette shouted over to Tina that she was expecting a visit from a local artist and if she would escort her to her office. Tina knew this fact as it was supposed to be her but she played along and opened the door to her friend Dana who had agreed to present her portfolio in her place.
A very uncertain personal trainer made her way into the gallery and into Bette’s office where she was greeted warmly by the owner.
The door closed after introductions were made and Dana sat in front of the desk clutching Tina’s portfolio.
She handed it over to Bette upon her request almost forgetting to let go once Bette caught it in her hands.
The gallery owner opened the cover page and her breath caught in her throat at the discovery she instantly made.
There in front of her, below the colourful photographs of abstract paintings lay the description of each painting. It was not the painting which caught Bette’s attention, it was the beautifully crafted turquoise calligraphy from the love letter. She looked up at Dana.

    1. oh. oh. what will happen now? this is gonna be great! i reeeeaaalllly L O V E this story. rarely, do i stumble across a story so simple yet riviting in context, that it just makes me, for lack of a bettre term, “wanting for more”. the characterzation of the people on the subway rides…great visual. multiple thumbs up for this story!thanks for taking the time to share and can’t wait to read more on the letter, the art and tina’s art.

    2. Please don’t let Bette focus on trying to get together with Dana and ignoring the wonderful Tina who is right in front of her. The charade needs to end…I afraid for both of their hearts!

    3. “Oh what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive.” Love this story. Hope there is some way for Tina to get Dana out of this predicament, and confess that the paintings are hers as well as the letter. God, this ride is gonna be fun and I can hardly wait to see what happens next. I think just from this one meeting that Bette will suspect that Dana is not the artist nor the writer once she begins to talk since Tina has already told her so eloquently that she dabbles in the astract. And I think once Bette talks to her more she will discover who the real artist is, Tina. Gosh I love this. Thanks so much for posting. PPS

    4. AFter reading the chapter my very first thought with a low and slow grinning, Ahhhhhhhh, was “what a tangled web…” and I see that Azmama also had the same first thought. Great minds and all that. Love this.

    5. Wow. So Bette will think its Dana. And Dana won’t have a clue. Neither will Tina. This is getting more interesting by the post can’t wait for more. Great detail about the leg cleavage ha ha that made me chuckle. And more importantly visualise this! Can’t wait for more I’m still hoping for a reply via the subway though really holding out for that! Ppvs Caramel

    6. Well, that’s the kind of interview every job-seeker would wish to go through… With that same employer that is! ;) I’m not too worried about Bette being infatuated with Dana. Love the poor girl, but I don’t think that Bette will be fooled for too long. But the whole thing is bound to be extremely interesting! Thanks.

    7. Uh Oh, now Tina will have to some how let Bette know that it is her and not Dana who wrote the letter. Can’t wait to see how this story plays out.

    8. Oh you are good! My laptop just had a coffee shower. The mere image of Bette trying to woo Dana. Thank you for making my Monday morning a very funny one. On to the presentation of the portfolio, please!

    9. Hi kins40, Sorry as I haven’t been around much lately however I am back and have now caught up with this new adventure. How beautiful and delicate it is. The wondrous letter and now Bette and Tina have met. There was an instant attraction and palpable electricity as Tina spoke about her love and feelings for Art. This totally entranced Bette. Now Dana has arrived in Tina’s place and the major misunderstanding has occured. Bette thinks that Dana has written the letter. Wow-wee such farce. I can’t wait to read how this all plays out. Great times ahead. More please as soon as you can. Thank you for another fabulous fan fiction and making me smile all day long. Your Loyal Fan.
