The Newly Discovered SoCal Humminger Bette Porterius ~ Chapter 12

    Earlier that Wednesday evening—

“I feel like I should be sipping wine or something.”

“What?” a distracted Tina asked her friend who was stretched out comfortable on one of the two $15,000 sofas that sat in a corner of Tina’s huge office..

“Don’t they serve alcoholic beverages when people watch a half naked woman walk back and forth?”

“Thousand dollar bottles of cheap champagne.” Tina muttered as she examined her dress for any specks of lint.

    “Thousand dollars?”

    “Several bottles at a time.”

“Incredible,” Bronwyn shook her head. “How do you know that?”

“Remember the Mothra remake the studio was courting?  Guess who babysat the screenwriter during his first visit to Los Angeles?” Tina replied as she examined the dress to see if there were any wrinkles that needed to be ironed.

“You took him to strip clubs?”  Bronwyn usually faked a jaded LA exterior, but her true self emerged and she couldn’t hide her shock.

Tina replied while she was rubbing a tiny scratch on one of her shoes, “He dragged me, and I was under orders to keep him out of trouble.”

“I would never have done that for any job.  Fuck Alphaville.”

“Getting hum drunk at a strip club was good.  The club didn’t care if he passed out as long as my credit card was good and once he was out for the count, he couldn’t get into any more trouble.  The bouncer helped me get him into a cab and, for $200, the hotel concierge got him to his room.”

“Things like that are why you are now a big studio exec.”

“But I remember the little people.”

    “Shouldn’t you be serving champagne?”

“No, the one doing the looking buys the champagne.”

“Oh.”  Bronwyn rolled to a seated position, stood and wandered to the half refrigerator hidden in the sandalwood cabinets that lined a wall in the office.   She opened the refrigerator’s door and bent to examine its offerings.  “Want a Diet Coke?”

    “Might stain.”

    “Water?”

    “Might stain.”

    “Use a straw.”

Tina thought for a moment, then nodded.  Bronwyn grabbed a bottle of water, found a straw, opened the bottle and inserted the straw and handed it to Tina.

    1. Tina, it is in very bad taste to be smooching and hugging Eric within potential view of Bette. I hope Bette didn’t see. She may over-react as usual and change the seating chart to have Tina sit at the opposite obscure end of the dinner table. Spumoni, please update soon. My heart is in my mouth.

    2. The things Tina does for Eric? When Eric wanted to bail on the dinner? Sure, Tina. Girlcrush, Eric… the moment of truth is coming, and Tina won’t have either of those excuses to hide behind soon. This, Spumoni, was a great chapter, and Tina and Bronwyn are a great example of why I love your stories. Now then. I can’t wait for the next round of “plodding” (why do you say that anyhow? I love the pace of this story!), so post soon. Thanks, Spumoni! :)

    3. Upon the long ago recommendation of a good and perspicacious friend, I began reading your wonderful “Humminger” story Saturday evening. I started at chapter 11…went quickly back to chapter 1…and could not stop reading! Your writing is lovely and compelling! Your story is wonderful! I feel blessed that you posted so soon after I just began reading your tale. Thank you for sharing your talent. I can’t wait for more!

    4. Hi, dear sweet Spumoni! *waving* Ok, you have designated front seats for us, right? This is going to be interesting. We have been waiting to watch the dinner. Well, everything is settled, now. Tina has all the information she might need about the guests invited to the special dinner. Hmmm Wonder if Bette will be humming, as soon as Tina gets in. Oh, we are anticipating a whole show running around the one Bette Porter, when a certain blonde woman arrives. Oh, you are giving us lots of ideas for your next installment and yes, we are completely hooked, dear friend. *wink* PPS Hugs & kisses on both your cheeks. – Lu & Marsh (Proud Salsa Aunties to the loving JC, Eunichick, ZLFAN, T_Daze, Melrose231 and Tias Adoradas to Patpez)

    5. Yes, Tina it may be a crush, but it is definitely more than a girlcrush, it just might be called love. Can hardly wait until they see one another. Goodbye Eric. Thanks for posting.

    6. Keep on plodding, Spumoni! I find myself sitting here mindlessly humming and waiting for dinner to begin. Look forward to the reveal of the place cards.

    7. Oh…be scared Eric…beeeeeeeee very scared! I’m really looking forward to your perspective of what T and B are thinking when they see each other again. More humming, please. :)

    8. LOL@Bette Porter, the scaaaaary lesbian. By the was Bronwyn is on my top five recurring non-L word characters in fics. She’s awesome. All sorts of awesome, actually. I wish Tina had had a Bronwyn in the show. And calling this plod, plod? You worry me, Italian pirate. Very much.
