The Other Side of the Game Part 4

Mikela nods her head affirmatively and reiterates: Yes they are. She turns her body so that Candace and she are face to face. Look, I know you have your problems with the church- so do I- but this is about my family. I just want to celebrate a spiritual blessing with my family and with you. Thats all I want.

Candace sees the earnest and pleading look on Mikelas face and gives in. Alright, Ill go.

Mikela: She smiles and says Thank you.

Candace: She leans forward and kisses her on the forehead. I love you. You know that right?

    Mikela: Yes I know.

Candace: Youre right about doing things for family, which is why Im doing this for you.

Mikela: Being a little confused by Candaces statement asks, What do you mean?

Candace: Since I moved away from New York, I lost my sense of being apart of a family. I started to forget what family is all about. Now that the baby is coming I am starting to get that feeling again. Were going to be a family.

Mikela: Right. The baby, Yolanda and you.

Candace: You forgot one other person.

    Mikela: Who?

Candace looks right into Mikelas eyes and whispers, You.

Mikela is struck speechless so Candace decides to explain. You are the most important person in my life. I love you. No family of mine would be complete without you. Tears begin to shine in Mikelas eyes from the heartfelt admission from Candace. I know Yolanda being pregnant has put a strain on our relationship and my tendency to become obsessed with my work isnt helping, but I just want you to know that I may not show it or say it enough but I thank god everyday that he blessed me with you. I had all but given up on love until you came along, now I just feel like – like Im home. Yeah, you feel like home to me. She pauses as she tries to muscle up the courage to say the next part. I was wondering. How you would feel about maybe, uhm, making our situation more – uhm – more

Overwhelmed by what she knows Candace is trying to ask Mikela reaches over and kisses her. The first kiss is feather soft but the following ones become more passionate than the last. The remote is still in her hand, so she extends her hand out at points it toward the television. Without breaking away from Candaces mouth, she turns it off, leaving the den in shrouded darkness. Candace lays Mikela back onto the sofa after slowly undressing them both. There they lie and make love throughout the remains of the night and into the early morning dawn.
