The Sound Track of Our Lives

“Sorry, I can’t help it. You are so beautiful.” Bette wetted her lower lip and gazed intently into Tina’s eyes. “I love looking at you.” The corner of her mouth curved up slightly, her eyes darkened with lust and appreciation.

“Um” Tina glanced away,” go sit at the table I think dinners ready.”

As the two women sat and ate there was very little conversation going on. They small talked a little about their day and what was happening at work but other then that there were quite a few awkward silences. The easy conversation of the past 4 and half weeks was markedly absent. After dinner, they cleared and wash the dishes together in silence. After the clean up was done Tina directed Bette to the sofa. Bette sat in the middle and Tina sat as far away as possible.

Bette sighed deciding it was time to confront Tina, “Have I done something to make you uncomfortable?”

Tina jumped, “what? No, why do you ask?”

“Well,” Bette said slowly, as she slid towards Tina,” You seem distracted and” Tina started to back away as Bette tried to scoot closer. Tina pushed herself to the end of the sofa and looked a little frantic to discover she had no where else to go. Bette seeing the scared look stopped and suddenly stood up. “I guess I will go,” Bette went to move to the front door.

Tina starts to panic, “Bette, wait!” She grabs Bette’s hand. “I’m sorry! I’m just a littleI don’t know.” Bette turns around to face Tina.

“Have I done anything, Tina? If I have done something, I want to know so that I can fix it.” Bette pleaded with Tina. She went to put her hand on Tina’s cheek then stopped herself. Dropping her hand back to her side she gave Tina a sad smile. “Tina if you can’t do this I would like to know now before I fall even more in love with you.”

Tina takes a step back but still holds on to Bette’s hand, “Love? Bette, you meanIum…”Tina looks around franticly then back into Bette’s sad eyes.” Wait here.” Tina turns and runs to her bedroom, Bette stands still not moving. Deathly afraid Tina was going to break her heart. Her breathing was shallow, her throat dry. Tina was throwing things around in the bedroom franticly looking for something.
