    Dana: Oh, Shane just said something funny, that’s all. Shane: No, it’s because of the giant smile your girlfriend was wearing when she heard you were asking for her all morning. Alice shot Dana a look as Shane said this. Of course, Shane knew there was something going on between them, but they hadn’t yet

    Dana: Oh, Shane just said something funny, that’s all.

    Alice shot Dana a look as Shane said this. Of course, Shane knew there was something going on between them, but they hadn’t yet told their friends they were a couple. Alice was frowning at Dana, and Dana had an apologetic look on her face. Shane noticed this and decided she should let the couple talk. She said her goodbyes to Alice and told her she’d be back soon. She waved to Dana and Dana did the same. As soon as Shane was gone, Alice began with the questions.

    Alice: Dana, how does Shane know?

    Dana: Know what?

    Alice: About us being together?

    Dana: Look, I’m sorry, Al. it just slipped out last night. She was asking about us and I was just so happy that you asked me. I shouldn’t have said it. I’m sorry.

    Alice: No, Dana. It’s not that I mind, it’s just that we said we’d take it slow. To me it feels like if we tell our friends, they’ll jump to conclusions that might put pressure on us.

    Dana completely understood what Alice was saying. Last night Shane had asked Dana if she kissed Alice yet. And now, Dana was feeling like they should, simply because it’s what their friends had expected of them. It was different with Alice and Dana. Yes, there was the physical attraction there, but there was so much more. They didn’t need to be making out all the time, they didn’t feel the need to have sex every time they were alone, they simply enjoyed each other’s company.

    Dana: Yeah, I know.

    Alice: Besides, it’s only Shane. She can keep a secret.

    Dana: So, when do you think you’ll be able to get out of here?

    Alice: No idea. The Doctor said I might be getting feeling back, but if I’m honest I don’t want to. I hate the pain. He said it’s because they’re broken and I haven’t been able to move them.

    Dana: Yeah, I can’t stop thinking it’s my fault.

    Alice: Why?

    Dana: You know…

    Alice: Oh, the footsie? That was naughty Dana. And a little selfish, don’t you think? Using my paralysed legs for your own pleasure.
