    Dana: I’m sorry. Alice could sense the hurt in Dana’s voice. Dana looked away from Alice and stared at the floor. Alice reached for Dana’s hand that was resting on the side of her bed. As soon as Dana felt her hand being lifted by Alice’s, she looked at her, their eyes locking. Alice: I

    Alice could sense the hurt in Dana’s voice. Dana looked away from Alice and stared at the floor. Alice reached for Dana’s hand that was resting on the side of her bed. As soon as Dana felt her hand being lifted by Alice’s, she looked at her, their eyes locking.

    Alice: I was kidding. I just wish I could’ve felt it.

    Dana: I wanted to hold your hand, that’s all.

    Alice: You can, Dane.

    Alice entwined their fingers as they held the eye contact. Dana couldn’t believe she was so inexperienced in dating, but was so in love. She never wanted this feeling to stop. Just looking into Alice’s eyes gave her butterflies. Alice was the one person she felt entirely comfortable with. She knew almost every single flaw of Danas, and yet she loved her regardless. Her dream really had come true. Alice was thinking the same things. Dana was beautiful, and Alice really couldn’t believe they had ended up together. It was her dream too. Alice thought she’d never fall in love, not like this. Alice was brought out of her thoughts as the door opened.

    Alice: Hey Shane.

    Shane: Hey, guys, I’m sorry for earlier.

    Alice: Shane, come sit down.

    Alice motioned to the chair on the left of her and held out her hand for Shane to take. Shane took Alice’s hand and sat in the chair, cursing herself for interrupting an obviously intimate moment between her two best friends.

    Alice: Shane, you don’t have to be sorry. Big mouth Dana here couldn’t keep her mouth shut. But don’t worry about it. We know you can keep a secret.

    Shane: Thanks, guys. Why don’t you want to tell anyone yet?

    Dana: We feel like if people know, they’ll assume, and we don’t want that added pressure.

    Alice: Yeah, we want to take things slow.

    Shane: That’s fair enough, guys. Don’t worry. I’ll keep it to myself.

    Alice: Thank you. Anyway, did you bring me any food? I’m hungry.

    Dana: Sorry, Al. Do you want me to go get you some?

    Alice: Maybe just some fruit. The doctors will kill me if I eat anything else.

    Dana: Alright, be back soon.

    Dana got up and kissed Alice on the cheek, slightly closer to her lips than she normally would have. If Alice had moved her head slightly to the right, they would have kissed on the lips. Dana lingered a little before whispering into Alice’s ear.
