What now? Chapter 10: Trust
“Alice, are you talking about Lara and Dana?” Helena remembered that Alice mentioned they dated before and were now hanging out on a regular basis. “Because it sounds to me like you’re making too many assumptions here” Helena did not get a chance to finish that sentence.
“I know I know!” Alice ripped her hand away form Helena as he waved her arms, and smacked her hands against the steering wheel. “But you weren’t there when they dated, Helena! I’ve never seen Dana like that. When she was with Lara before, it was like they were meant for each other. Everyone thought so. She was just so in love, I guess. How can I compete with that? I’m just the best friend.”
“Stop it, Alice! I’ve seen you and Dana together. She adores you, it’s obvious.”
“Yeah. But for how much longer? I’m a complete nightmare. I can’t even look at her anymore. I can’t close my eyes without seeing her with Lara. And I know it’s my problem, not hers. Because if it wasn’t for the way I’m acting now, we might actually be able to be happy. But I just can’t…”
“Have you spoken to Dana about this?” Helena asked. The blonde looked more and more miserable, and the dark haired woman felt a little nervous about it. She had never been very good at comforting people in pain. Except for her children, but then it was often enough with a band-aid and a cuddle to make the pain go away. Helena had a feeling that what Alice felt was not going to go away that easily.
“I tried” Alice’s eyes flooded and spilled over with tears, but she still tried to control her sobs. “She just I think I really hurt her, Helena. And I would never want that. She just got so angry all of a sudden. And the way she looked at Like she didn’t even know me. Like she hated me” Alice lost control of her sobs and the other woman instinctively embraced her in a tight hug.
Helena could not think of anything to say, but then again, she did not feel it was necessary for her to speak right now. It was like the time stood still, if asked she could not have guessed the time they had spent in that car. She just held Alice until she was done crying. The blonde snuffled and looked down on the shoulder of heiress’ very expensive shirt.
“Shit. I’ve ruined your shirt! Do you have a tissue?” Alice looked desperately after something to wipe the shirt with, her cheeks soar after all the salty tears..
“It’s not the end of the world.” Helena chuckled.
“Are you sure? Because I’ll get it dry-cleaned for you”
“There is absolutely no need for that. I assure you, Alice.” Helena smiled at the gesture and patted Alice’s arm. The journalist smiled back, a little embarrassed by her behaviour.
“Some pair we are.” She muttered. “If one isn’t crying their eyes out, it’s the other.”
Helena laughed a little. “It’s refreshing, isn’t it?” She said and winked her eye at Alice. “Don’t you think we should go in and have some tea? It doesn’t seem like we’re going anywhere tonight.”
“You don’t think I’m turning psycho, then?” Alice mocked, but Helena could see that it was a serious question masked as a joke.
“Not at all.” Was her only reply.

wonderful fic. you did really well expressing Alice’s emotions. Are you going to put forward Dana’s side as well?
You write Helena so well, could almost hear her talking. and Alice it takes a good writer to write her saness, sillyness and trying to get out of some trouble she has gotten herself into. Yet you have done so well thanks
I… LOVE.. THIS… STORY!!! I love how you’re developing the Helena and Alice storyline. You write the characters so well. It’s painful to see Danish this way, but I can’t wait until you start writing happy-Alice again :o) Post soon please!
