Chapter 24

Shane stopped at the pizza parlor on the corner to pick up her order on the way home.  After leaving Angelica on the bleachers, she had gotten a few calls which tied her up longer than she anticipated.  When she went to leave for the day, Frankie and Angelica caught up with her seeking a ride.  It turned out for the best because this way they could help her carrying all the pizzas she’d ordered, along with enough sodas to fill everyone up. 

Frankie and Shane were stowing everything away in the back of Shane’s Jeep.  Closing the hatch Frankie asks, “Do you think we’ve got enough?”

“I don’t know, if not we can always get more.” Shane responses.

“No Shane … I was being sarcastic.  You got eight pizzas here.  We don’t usually get that many.” Frankie offers to both Shane and Angelica.

“Oh I was just thinking if it got late you two might just stay and this way there’s left over for breakfast in the morning.  I don’t know about you but I’ve tasted Bette’s cooking and well Frankie come on need I say more.” Shane explains.

Frankie just nods her head in understanding but Angelica turns to Frankie.  “You don’t cook?”

Frankie turns this around on Angelica, “Do you?”

“Yeah I can cook.” Angelica admits surprised at the look that was exchanged between Shane and Frankie.  “What… what am I missing.”

It’s Shane that fills her in.  “Angelica you aren’t missing anything really.  Its just Frankie and I spent a lot of time looking after Bette when she was going through some stuff and to help her often we would get her meals.”

Angelica nods, “Yeah Frankie told me she had been sick.”

“Yeah” Frankie continues where Shane left off.  “Well that became at times a real mission of mercy but the question was who was the one who needed the mercy.  You see neither Shane nor I cook but thank God for us neither does Bette.  Over the years, she has gotten take out from every restaurant within ten mile radius of here.  And because she tips so well they all know her.  So all Shane and I had to do was call up a few of them and soon we had anything we needed.”
