    Window of Opportunity ch.37

“What do you want from me?”

“I want a chance with you. I heard that you and Tina broke up and you were dating a sculptor but I also heard that she’s left town. Bette you never gave us a chance and I know that we could have something good.”

I stood there looking at her in disbelief. Three years later she was still holding on to some fantasy of us being together. Not a chance in hell was that going to happen and if she was having some ideas that were even a possibility, I was determined to take this opportunity to set her straight of that. “Do you not realize what we had was the textbook definition of an affair? There were no feelings on my part. It was purely sex. Sex that I had with someone who was not my wife I might remind you. When Tina found out and left me, I told you then that I loved her and that you and I had nothing. That remains the same way I feel now. Candace, I never loved you. I never wanted to love you. As much as this may seem hardened on my part, you were just for sex. I made a mistake by allowing anything to happen with you. You went into it knowing I was with Tina and if you thought I was going to leave her for you, I’m sorry. I never gave you that impression because that was never the case.”

“How can you know that without us trying for more? Everyone assumed, I think correctly that if you were willing to cheat on Tina that you had to have feelings for that person.”

“I know if I jump out of an airplane without a parachute, I’m going to die. I don’t need to try that to confirm it. I also don’t need to try being in a relationship with you to know that’s not what I want or ever wanted. Who is everyone? Everyone I know thought I had lost my fucking mind not that I had fallen for you. I never lied to you. I never led you on. If you developed feelings, that’s not something that I have any control of. I have a life that is going well for me and I allowed myself to be distracted once. That will never happen again. I don’t want you in my life as a mistress, girlfriend or friend. What we had is totally in the past with no chance of a future occurrence. Leave me alone Candace.”

    1. I am savoring the back-to-back postings. What a treat! I love your writing style and find myself rereading paragraphs. Thanks for all the updates and enjoy the rest of your break!

    2. By some strange coincidence…you often write something that touches deep within my soul and that makes it extremely heartfelt. Amazing. Thank you again for writing.

    3. As always another truely amazing post! I so what you mean with the painting and friends and booze…just say you couldn’t decide which color, it worked for me for awhile anyway! lol Hope you had fun at lunch:)

    4. The od Bette needs to come out at times. Having a temper doesn;t not hurt, Now she will need to get a new phone.so in a way she hurt herself..Glad that Tina was so supportive of Bette then she explain to Bette about what she said It was the doing not what she couldnt control. thanks

    5. Wow, I am sooooo glad that you had some extra time to write this. I am awestruck at your ability to write like this in such a short amount of time. This was a beautiful chapter demonstrating just how far they have come with their communiction. I am always left with wanting more of this story and yet you haven’t teased me once with a cliff hanger…the mark of a really good story teller!

    6. Great challenge to the relationship and it all worked out so smoothly — at least for these two. I hope these two get a break though – Kit’s right — they deserve a moment without additional stress. Anxiously awaiting family day and how they are going to tell the girls….

    7. Bette lost it for a second but pulled it together when she saw that Tina was 100% behind her and believed she did nothing to encourage Candace. Great chapter can’t wait for what comes next. PPS

    8. Awesome as usual..yeah painting, BF and wine don’t mix well. I found that out with cooking :) Have fun with your lunch, and just take it easy. Anybody ask about your painting..just say its abstract..:) PPS

    9. another great update! enjoy lunch! wow if candance causes to much trouble the gang will have to step in case tina needs a hand. cuz tina will sure take care of her if need be! :)

    10. WOW, you’re on a roll, newagegirl! I haven’t even managed to leave a comment yet to your last two, long and enjoyable chapters but then you came up with another good one. Talk about prolificness! I’m really amazed. You write when you’re under pressure from your important project, in the middle of the night when you can’t sleep, when you’re pissed off because of botched weekend plans and before or after painting your kitchen. WOW! I salute you, newagegirl! Btw, a million thanks for granting my requests! You know, I started squealing when I read Tina and Bette’s recollection of the night when they first made love. I was beside myself with joy because that’s what I wanted to read and you granted my wish! And you followed it up with the account of their first out-of-town trip to Moscow, Kentucky! Excuse my language but holy sh*t, this just keeps getting better and betterer!!! This chapter’s a good test for them. Ghosts from their past are bound to haunt them but the difference now is how they react to them, how they handle the tricky situations individually and together. Looking forward to the Saturday barbeque. :> I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the beautiful memories of their rings, their commitment ceremony will be in one of the next envelopes. This could segue way into the bitter, painful memory of the day they stopped wearing those rings. Thanks a lot for this update, newagegirl! And may your Muse continue to inspire you whatever real life crisis or inanities you’re dealing with right now. PPS. :>
