Wings of An Angel – Bette and Tina – Chapter 10

    St. Patricks Hospital – 10:30 P.M – Examination Room

Dr. Antoine Cartwright, the lead assigning physician to both Bette and Kyle, was reluctant to give a report to any family member without first thoroughly examining both his patients.  Dr. Cartwright was considered one of the most accomplished practitioners of his field; his incredible stature spoke volumes of himself as a doctor and a human being.  Dr. Cartwright is a forty five year old man living his life to save every person that enters the emergency doors of St. Patricks.  His six feet tall frame, covered in cocoa brown, neatly trimmed hair and beard, dreamy bedroom green eyes and muscular torso never went unnoticed especially since every resident nurse did his and her best to have the same working shift as him.  His distinguished features earned a second look from those that walk passed him; his face was not one to be forgotten.  Dr. Cartwright dedicates his time and energy completely to his patients and staff members; he made sure that there wasnt anything lacking in their personal and professional needs.

The room was in a frenzy of ordered chaos; teams of nurses systematically working together in order to save the lives of two complete strangers.  The reassuring sounds of therapeutic machines prickled the ears with each fragile heart beat, sterilized packaged needles being opened to inject intravenous medicines to regulate the blood and brain, white plastic gloved hands measuring the alertness of the bodies reactive senses, voices communicating the delicate results of the vital signs being checked and recorded, and the combative need to fight against the race of time was sizzling with tension.  Upon his first glance at Kyle and Bette he at first couldnt determine the difference between their clothes and skin as both were covered in charcoaled debris from head to toe; a distressful contrast between the white decorated interior of the medical room.  The challenging component of the doctors and nurses job was to bring the blood pressure and heart rate to a stable condition; it was more the will of the person as to whether they lived or died.  Losing a member of society was a natural course of the circle of life, but to lose one so young, regardless of how hard you tried, it still pained everyone emotional involved.  For some doctors it was easy not to get personally involved; you are taught that its a career, nothing more nothing less.

    1. I actually have to agree with slipperynipple. I like this story and love how you don’t just rush through things (unlike IC & Co. since they only have a maximum of 60 minutes a week to play with), but I actually had to keep stopping while reading this so I wouldn’t wear myself out. Introducing the supernatural was a good idea seeing as it would take a miracle for someone to come out of an incident like that alive.

    2. I found your story today and spent my afternoon reading it. This is intriguing me. The thing I am most curious about is the little boy, something is weird with that situation. I am wondering if this is going to be an adventure like the movie “What dreams may come.” Will we find the little boy helping Tina face the Angel of Death? This story is also reminding me of Stephen king’s book “Rose Madder.” Although I really enjoy this story and your writing is great I would have to agree with slipperynipple about the length in certain parts. It can take away from the story. other than that I am enjoying it, please continue!

    3. Cool! I seem to be drifting into the dark side of the world lately. The fight between Tina and the Dark Lord was intriguing. The Angel of Life just seemed to stand their and let Tina fight for Bette. The only time that you saw it or it was mentioned was when they were running down the hall and that Angel was running beside Bette. It will take all that Tina can give to Bette to keep her alive. Please post soon.

    4. Good to see you back Leo and this is good chapter. When Tina talk to the Angel of Death is scary, ok glad Bette ok now and hope she will wake up soon. OK post soon please, thanks!

    5. Leo, god damn – you have been gone so long and then you give us the chapter from hell :o)……holy christ this was intense leo – absolutely amazing. Pleas do continue – We so want more, but please not so much drama on the next one eventhought we love it :o) Post soon

    6. Well, so you disappear and then out of nowhere….BANG, after that chapter you once again have our attention…pls don’t ever go away that long again….I will assume that you are busy writing the next, and the next, and the next chapters….as you owe us big time….almost forgot….THANKYOU

    7. Ya know this will be the first time I will write this. The story is good but this was too much. I think I skipped to the ending. The middle took to long and took me along a path I was not very interested in. But believe me this does not mean that the story did not have the desired affect but sometimes less is more. Could of done without some of the death part and the construction site part. Thanks for the story

    8. Three months and thirteen days……..three months and thirteen days is how long you had a woman waiting…(its this how you threat your women)…….LE0, three months and thirteen days………..BUT it was worth the wait………….This chapter by far is your best……The struggle that Tina is going through to keep Bette where she belongs is heart felt…………The fight that she has with the Angel of Death clearly shows how in love she is with Bette and how far she will go to keep her…………..Now PLEASE let Tina win this fight so we can find out the mystery about Bette and Kit………..WE want a happy ending………Now I’ll only waiting THREE HOURS AND THIRTEEN MINUTES this time…………Please continue!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    9. Leo, welcome back although it’s been WAY TOO LONG. What an ambitious and complex chapter, thank you! If you ever feel another writer’s block coming on consider writing a simpler 1 or 2 pager to keep the creative juices flowing and keep in touch with your readers.
