Falling down means you have to crawl back up – (Chapter: confessions and laughter)
Later that night Spencer waited under the oak tree where Kyla had texted her to tell Spencer where she would meet her. Spencer still had her encounter with Ashley playing through half her mind and the other half of her mind wondered what was wrong with Kyla. It annoyed her that the two sisters took up too much of her mind, but yet her mind would not feel content without them. There were many reasons that either of them should not be in her confined head, yet they disappeared when they were in front of her.
A twig snapped to the left of her and caused Spencer quickly to turn to face the sound relieved when she saw Kyla approaching her. There was something different about the girl even though she approached there was something distant about her. It pained Spencer because she cared so deeply about the friend she had found. Kyla was now standing up leaning against the tree her face looking down at the ground unable to meet Spencer’s questioning gaze.
“Hi.” Kyla finally said the silence for the first time was threatening to drown the duo.
“Hey.” Spencer replied softly trying in vain to catch the girls eye, silence was going to slip over them again and Spencer was not going to allow it. “Are we going to talk?”
The brunette didn’t look up and simply shrugged her shoulders, not knowing what to say, a lie, which Spencer would see through or the truth which would scare her away. There were some circumstances that which ever path you chose you will lose, and that is where Kyla stood at the fork in the road weighing up her options.
“What’s wrong with you?” Spencer asked she could see in Kyla’s eyes that her brain was working over time. She wanted the girl to confide in her, and if she had a problem, allow Spencer to help her solve it.
“Nothing I’m fine.” It was a lie and the look on Spencer’s face told her that she knew it.
“I can keep asking, will the answer change?” Spencer enquired. “I don’t want to force you to tell me but…”
“Then stop asking…please.” Kyla interrupted and with her last word her voice cracked, it made Spencer’s heart hurt. She had never once witnessed Kyla cry before, not over Aiden, not because of Ashley’s betrayal, and hearing her delicate voice break, wounded Spencer.
