Project New Girl – (Chapter: An audience with Julian)

The next few weeks passed by in a daze of bitchy confrontations, harsh, backhanded words, sly comments and a lot of evil seething and planning… on my part, anyway, anyway, as Spencer had sensibly taken to trying to avoid me as much as was humanly possible when working in the same department. Being around her was physically, mentally and emotionally draining, and I spent my time thinking up mean ways to get back at her for what she’d done to me, as opposed to dealing with my serious issues and moving on – which would have been the sensible option.
I started off by ignoring her presence and ideas, doing petty things like making coffee for everyone else in the department except for her, eventually moving on to making her coffee but adding pretty nasty ingredients to it. After the rest of the creatives cottoned on to what was happening, I was no longer allowed to make the coffee for anyone, and so I upped my game, shooting down every single idea she presented to the group, tearing each of her proposals to pieces, to the sheer bewilderment of our colleagues. Even Aiden was annoyed with me, often taking me aside and telling me that I was out of order and being highly unprofessional for reasons he didn’t understand and didn’t want to know. He thought he’d put me in line by joking about the fact that my playground antics wouldn’t help me win the bet, not realizing that my ‘antics’, as he described them, were in no way related to childish crushes and immaturity. This was a whole new realm of immaturity that culminated in me intentionally fucking up several large projects, during which I was expected to work with her co-operatively.
The bad vibe in our office spilled out of our doors and seemed to tarnish the entire atmosphere at DJC, seeping through the building like a disease that caused relations to rot and decay around us. The atmosphere wasn’t improved by the fact that the bet wasn’t going well, either – after three weeks no one had yet secured a date with Spencer, and many competitors were already out of the game. I was in everyone’s bad books as they suspected that my harshness towards Spencer was making her low and depressed and therefore unlikely to want to go on dates because she was too unhappy to want to socialize with any of us outside of working hours. I didn’t tell them that their assumptions were bollocks, and it was actually due to the fact that the guys were considerably lacking in the one area that Spencer would deem most important: they were male! I was amazed no one had figured out she was gay yet, and was more amazed by the fact that Spencer hadn’t said anything and was just accepting the guys’ ridiculous behaviour around her. They were being more immature in trying to get in her pants than I was in trying to ruin her career at DJC, which I didn’t originally think was possible. If it weren’t for my ego, I may have allowed myself to realize that Spencer was actually as lovely as I’d thought she was when I’d first met her, and that she was genuinely trying to make it up to me for her past mistakes. But I kept shooting her down and trying to make myself feel better by making her feel worse.

So I came over to this site, just thinking I was going to comment, and I ended up reading this chapter over again. For some reason, I always end up reading your posts more than once. I think that’s the sign of a great piece of writing: when every time you read it, you get a little something more out of it.great update, as always. i think these next few chapters are going to be very telling.post again soon! ohmg. i love you. ew that pig julian, but hes a character i would love, ha cuz i love the unexpected. haha anti carrie, but you have to do what you have to do. spencers as big as a jerk as she was, deserves more than a PA. and Ashley..needs to knock this pitch outta the water and either realize shes loves spencer, or get over her already. haha god i love you, and i want more now. make my new year a good one ;]
Ashley and Spencer are so going to realize they still love each other while working on this project. Great update, PMS!
aww you mentioned me! i feel so very special now!! thanks bannerman, you’ve certainly brightened up my new years. now as for this story. i LOVE it! and maybe working with spencer will get ash and her back together. cuz we all know how effing aamzing that would be! haha um yeah, basically i hate what julian did. because thats what ALL bosses do! confuse the fuck out of you then suck up to you to do something for them, and since you’re so confused you’re like ok sure why not haha. very nicely done!! i love your writing style. just enough details so you get the full effect of whats going on and not enough to bore the reader.
Yeah MAN! Nice post. I’m loving it and I hope that Ashley seriously gets ALL of her priorities straight. She needs to realize that Spencer is what she needs in her life and that Carrie needs to be smushed like a bug beneath her shoe! Haha. I love this. Update soon, would ya? Love you Man!

wow ash really need to be mature and professional for a month and a half with spencer to get the huge project! that’s gonna be interesting seeing ash behave and all. i know she has the right to do what she’s doing now but shouldnt she get a straight answer from spencer on what really happen first? and two of them working together late at night… sparks will surely fly and emotions all stirred up. hmm so cant wait for that!!
