“Fucked if I know, Davies!” he exclaimed, his focus momentarily landing on me before flicking back to the screen, causing my eyes to do the same. “Although from what I managed to stay awake long enough to listen to, I understand it to be that the case that the downward curve of that red line there” – he used the lazer in the head of the remote to pinpoint the exact section of the graph he was talking about, the red spot resembling the ones in spy movies that help snipers aim with deadly accuracy – “is a bad thing… and it’s also down to you.”
“What!?” I choked, feeling as though that red dot was now slowly roving my body before he pulled the trigger to end my life. My job at DJC was my life.
“Ash, it’s been brought to my attention that you’re having… difficulties, shall we say, in getting along with your new colleague,” he said, trying to sound tactful and maybe even understanding.
“It’s nothing -” I began.
“Bullshit!” he interrupted. “It’s obviously something if it’s making the strongest member of our team fuck up every damn pitch she’s made in the last month. Three accounts, Ashley – three, fucking accounts we’ve lost because you and Carlin can’t agree on a single fucking thing.”
I thought he would pause for breath, perhaps allow me to defend myself, but I was wrong. I also noticed he was swearing far more than usual, which was never a good sign.
“Fair enough, we all have creative differences, but not during the bloody meetings with our prospective clients,” he continued, sounding angrier by the second, his forced pronunciation of every word causing him to spit a little. “It makes us look clueless and totally unprofessional, and has lost us several contracts that were almost a 100% certainty – all you had to do was smile, show a bit of cleavage and back up Carlin’s proposals… but even that was beyond you!”
I was about to argue against his ridiculous take on what it was we actually did during our presentations with clients, particularly highlighting his misogynistic and offensive views, but as I opened my mouth to speak, he disregarded me and merely carried on ranting.

So I came over to this site, just thinking I was going to comment, and I ended up reading this chapter over again. For some reason, I always end up reading your posts more than once. I think that’s the sign of a great piece of writing: when every time you read it, you get a little something more out of it.great update, as always. i think these next few chapters are going to be very telling.post again soon! ohmg. i love you. ew that pig julian, but hes a character i would love, ha cuz i love the unexpected. haha anti carrie, but you have to do what you have to do. spencers as big as a jerk as she was, deserves more than a PA. and Ashley..needs to knock this pitch outta the water and either realize shes loves spencer, or get over her already. haha god i love you, and i want more now. make my new year a good one ;]
Ashley and Spencer are so going to realize they still love each other while working on this project. Great update, PMS!
aww you mentioned me! i feel so very special now!! thanks bannerman, you’ve certainly brightened up my new years. now as for this story. i LOVE it! and maybe working with spencer will get ash and her back together. cuz we all know how effing aamzing that would be! haha um yeah, basically i hate what julian did. because thats what ALL bosses do! confuse the fuck out of you then suck up to you to do something for them, and since you’re so confused you’re like ok sure why not haha. very nicely done!! i love your writing style. just enough details so you get the full effect of whats going on and not enough to bore the reader.

wow ash really need to be mature and professional for a month and a half with spencer to get the huge project! that’s gonna be interesting seeing ash behave and all. i know she has the right to do what she’s doing now but shouldnt she get a straight answer from spencer on what really happen first? and two of them working together late at night… sparks will surely fly and emotions all stirred up. hmm so cant wait for that!!
