    Chapter 3.

     

    Spencer’s smile was sheepish.  “Yeah, well…..” she put her cup in the sink, trying her hardest not to gag at the sight of the coffee. “That’s the last time I try that, with or without sugar or milk. “ She moved away from the sink, and stood in front of the brunette, who was leaning casually against the kitchen counter, drinking her coffee.

     

    “I almost forgot. My Momma gave me this to give to you.” She nervously dug in her front pocket and pulled out a small picture. She shyly handed it over to Ashley. It was an old picture of Raife and Paula at their high school graduation. “She said it was taken when they were both 18. They had just graduated.” She explained softly. “"They were best friends throughout high school.”

     

    Ashley stared down numbly at the picture in her hands. Her father and the blonde next to him looked so happy. She thought sadly. “This was taken around the time he left for his first real gig in Cali.” She muttered absently.

     

    Spencer nodded her head. “Momma told me that. He looked like a great guy Ashley.” She placed a comforting hand on Ashley’s shoulder. “I’m sorry he passed away.” 

     

    "Shit happens. It was just his time I guess." Ashley replied with a shrug, trying to keep her cool demeanor in front of the small blonde. She had always had a special relationship with her father, so she was taking the loss hard, but would never showed it. Changing the subject she asked, "So, how are the schools?”

     

    The change of subject was not lost on the small blonde, who removed her hand from the brunette’s shoulder and took a small step back. “Their great. I really like going to school out here.” She answered while tucking the picture Ashley handed her, back into her pocket.

     

    Ashley nodded. “I take it you’ve been here long.”

     

    “Oh yeah.” She chuckled. “But I like it out here so I have no complaints. What about you? Is this your first time out here?”

     

    “Yeah, but I know my Dad came out here every now and then.” She shifted unconsciously to her other foot. “Dad was out here 7 months ago. He invited me to go along with him.” She paused. “I think he wanted to spend some time with me or something. I didn’t spend a lot of free time with my parents, something I’m starting to regret, anyway I refused to go on the trip, so he took some of his friends instead.”
