“Sounds good, so I guess we should get going then.” I suggested.

She smiled and stepped around the kitchen counter toward me.  Oh, shit she was breaching the five foot safety zone.  Warning sirens were going off in my head and synapses were going off telling my feet to move me backward, but my legs weren’t responding.  She was right in front of me.  She put her hand very lightly on my arm and leaned forward slowly till her mouth was close to my ear.  I could feel her breath on me.  Fire…I was on fucking fire. I was on fire and I couldn’t move.  This could be trouble.

I jumped slightly at her soft voice.  “You look absolutely amazing tonight” she whispered.

I felt my body shiver and my eyes closed for just a second.  When I opened them again she had moved away but was still looking at me.

“Thank you,” I said hoarsely.  I cleared my throat.  “You look beautiful as well.” I offered lamely.   

“Shall we go now?” She asked and moved to the door.  I was still frozen.  She reached out her hand to me.  I wanted to take it but I shook my head.

“I think that it would be better if we tried not to touch any more tonight because I would really like to have intelligent conversation with you.” I said.

She laughed and nodded her head in agreement.  I followed her to the car that she had left running in my drive.  When I got in Mazzy Star was playing, it was the song Fade into You.  It was slow and sexy and it was going to be my undoing.

“Are you serious right now?” I said motioning to the radio. “You have to find something different.”

“What you don’t like Mazzy Star?” She asked innocently. The smile on her face was anything but.

“No I love Mazzy, she is great.  But she puts thoughts into my head that don’t involve you and me going to have dinner with our grandmas, in case you have forgotten.” I said.

She laughed and ejected the cd and put in Augustana for back ground music.
