“Ok, Ok I will be good for the rest of the night.” She said as we pulled out of the drive.  I felt half relief and half disappointment. 

“I was hoping I would see you when I dropped Pearl of yesterday,” I said.

“Yeah, grandma mentioned you came by.  I think I was down in the recording studio.” She replied.

We made small talk about her music for the rest of the drive.  I told her that I was envious of her ability to sing and play.  I loved music, but I couldn’t sing to save my life and instruments of any kind were like a foreign language.  She laughed and said she felt the same about horses.  So I said that I would teach her to ride if she could teach me to play the guitar.  It was the best excuse I had right now to spend more time with her.

When we got to the restaurant they directed us the table where our grandmas were seated.  They stood up to greet us and give hugs.

“Oh girls, you look positively gorgeous together.”  Ellen said clapping her hands with delight.

“Grandma you promised…” Ashley warned in a semi-serious tone.  She took a step to my grandma and gave her a hug.

‘Sarah, it is so nice to see you again.  You look great!” Ashley said.

“It has been so long since I have seen you last Ashley.  You look like you have been taking care of yourself.” my grandma replied beaming at her.

I didn’t realize that my grandma had met Ashley before and it surprised me that she hadn’t mentioned it.  I gave my grandma a questioning look and she replied with her own I will tell you later look. 

We settled in for some amazing sushi and great conversation.  Our grandmas did their job by fully embarrassing each of us.  Ellen told us about how Ashley had paraded around on stage at one of her father’s concerts completely naked.  And that she wouldn’t get off stage till she got to play air guitar next to her dad.  Ellen told me that she had it on tape and that I should come over some time to watch.  Ashley was mortified.  She was completely adorable when she blushed.
