Ashley cleared her throat. We both looked back at her.

“Yeeahhh, I am just going to take your word Kaylen that your BFF Spencer is a great kisser. This day has been out of control. So I am going to take my hetero-self out of this crazy girl-girl drama and go help my Grandma. Nice to meet both of you.” Ashley said backing away.

I stood there in shock….did she say hetero? I had just been going with the assumption from my dream that she was gay. Making assumptions usually lets you down. I was down big time. Kaylen noticed.

“Spencer, I am really sorry.”

“What, Oh no biggie.” I lied.

“I think the Banamine has had time to set in so let’s get Pearl to the clinic.” I changed the subject.We wrapped the mare’s legs with shipping wraps for the ride and got her loaded and safely braced.

I went to Mrs. Davies house and knocked on the door. Ashley answered.

“Hi sorry. I know you are probably really tired of seeing me, but I wanted to give you my cell number.” I said.

“Thanks, but like I said I am not really interested.” Ashley replied.

“It’s not for you.” I shot back. Ashley blushed slightly and looked embarrassed.

“If you could, please give it to your grandma that would be great. Tell her she can call me any time she wants to see how Pearl is doing. I will call her as soon as I get information and if certain decisions need to be made in best interest of Pearl’s health.”

“Oh, right. No problem.” Ashley said. “I will be here till next weekend so I can take her to see Pearl if she wants.” I could careless at this point that she would be here all week to be Ellen’s chauffer. Her voice was hypnotizing and I was captivated by what ever words she wanted to speak. I realized she had stopped talking and was giving me a questioning look.

“Thanks” an awkward silence followed “Yeah ..so I will talk to you later.” I finished. I turned quickly and hustled to the truck.

“Let’s get out of here before the mouth of Hell opens up and swallows us because that is basically the only thing that hasn’t happened to me this morning.” I told Kaylen as I started up my truck. I looked at my watch it was only 8:40 am. It felt like weeks had gone by.

“Well, we have a 40 minute drive so start talking” she said putting on her seatbelt.

I told Kaylen the whole story start to finish with out her saying a word…which rarely happens. When I was done I looked over at her and she just had a shocked look on her face.

“Wow, that is fuckin’ crazy Spencer. I don’t mean to be rude but it is kind of hysterical when you think about it. That is just some serious bum luck.” She replied. “You probably would have been better off if we had gone bar hopping last weekend.”

I nodded in agreement. 

“I can’t believe you asked for your old sweatshirt back.” Kaylen giggled. “Who does that? I mean you have a seriously hot girl you have been dreaming about to your left and hot girl that you had a one night,…or two night stand in your case, with to your right and the only thing you want is your high school Class of ‘03 sweatshirt? That is fuckin’ classic Spencer.”

“Hey this hoody has been around for a lot and it is perfectly broken in.” I said. “I hope the lipstick leaves a stain on the sleeve…it is like a war wound”

I laughed. She laughed. Then we both laughed a lot. Considering the situation laughter was the only way to go. We wiped tears from our eyes. I mean it really was like a scene right out of some day time soap show. Kaylen was good at picking me up. What was done was done. Nothing I could do about it now except pick up the pieces and just maybe the puzzle would come back together.
