Becoming Dana Fairbanks Chapter 11
"Yeah… cool…?" Jeez how are you supposed to respond when someone say that? Thanks? Dana thought, wondering why this phone call hadn’t gone the way she practiced. I should have practiced some more… made a cheat sheet or something.
"So what’s up?"
"Well I was wondering do you eat? No… I mean I know you eat… obviously you are alive and you have to eat to live… so you must eat…and you’re a chef… so umm.. What I mean is doyouwanttogotothisseafoodplacewithmeinSantaBarbara." There, I did it. I asked her out!
"I didn’t catch that last part," Lara said amused.
Urg… why me!
"I was wondering if you wanted to go to Santa Barbara with me on Saturday. We could going hiking or window shop or go to this great seafood place I know… it is right on the Marina… but if you don’t like seafood you can pick place.. you are a chef so I want to take you someplace you’ll like…"
"Dana," the other girl interrupted. "Saturday sounds great. I have to work until the early afternoon but I can be ready around three. Does that work?"
"SURE.. I mean that sounds good. I’ll pick you up? What is your address?"
After getting directions to the chef’s apartment, Dana began to say good-bye.
"Oh Dana, one more thing."
"Yeah," the brunette hesitated.
"Thanks for asking me out."
Trying her best to emulate Shane, she responded, "No problem" with a slight shrug. "See you Saturday."
"See you Saturday," the redhead echoed.
After hanging up the phone, Dana let out a shout of joy before doing a victory dance.
She was so in to it, she didn’t notice when Alice let herself into the athlete’s room.
"Get down with you bad self, twinkle toes," the blonde said laughing at her friend.
"ALICE," Dana yelled spinning around quickly. She was so startled that she slipped on the rug and landed in a heap on the floor, which sent the older girl in to another round of laughter.
"So not funny! You scared me. Haven’t you ever heard of knocking," the brunette said more embarrassed than angry.
"Oh, I’m sorry twinkle toes, I thought it would take more than me to scare the big bad tennis player," Alice said extending a hand to help the other girl up.

LMAO! ‘Now all i have to do is actually call her’ That was great, i’m really liking that Alice and Dana are on the friends level and Dana is getting more comfortable around her new friend while still managing to be her clumsy, cute self. Another excellent post A, thanks so much
Glad to see Jamie was there to help D figuring out what she wanted. D was true to her form when asking Lara to go out. lol. It was still early in the game. Therefore I wouldn’t mind D dating other people. It would be good for her. I am very happy that A & D were becoming good friends and were hanging out together. The coffee comment was funny too. Keep up your good work, anionayo. Thank you.
Dana asking Lara out is one of my favorite non-Danish moments on the show. The whole scene was funny and cute, but the “No problem” at the end is priceless. I’m happy for Dana, she needs some action, lol… Seriously, it’s only a date, it doesn’t have to turn into something more, right? …”I don’t speak athlete”… “The h-word. You know I hate that word”… LOL … Alice rocks!!! And so do you!!! Post soon!!!
Dress run phone call — too funny! The real call was perfect. You have a great handle on this young Dana. I love those touches you do with her. You are also doing an amazing job with the Alice/Dana interaction at this stage. Love Sam and how it shows how relaxed Dana is when she is in her element. Can’t wait to see what you have next! Thanks so much for this funny and sweet story!
