    Chapter 10 – Tuesday – Daniel’s Test and Marilyn’s Visit

Ms. Miller:  Well, that is impressive. And may I ask what you will be doing as a profession here in Los Angeles?

Bette:  I have accepted a position as a Professor in the School of Fine Arts at UCLA.  I have been in the arts field all my career.  I have owned my own gallery, been the curator for the California Arts Center, been the Dean of Fine Arts at CU, and the curator-director at the Whitney Museum of Arts. Now I am taking on being a Professor at UCLA.

Ms. Miller:  That is impressive as well. It would seem that education is important to you and your family.

Bette:  I believe that as a parent it is my responsibility to give our children the tools, they need to live the life they want to live and a good education is the key to their success.  We feel that what they want to do in life is up to them. Angie wants to study law. Dan wants to study science and math. I assume he will narrow down that area of study at some point. Tina and I have pretty much been in the arts and entertainment world. But we are proud of the people our children are. We just want them to be happy.

Ms. Miller:  I presume that you take an active part in your son’s life.

Bette:  Yes, both Tina and I do. And Angie does as well.

Ms. Miller:  Do you have any questions, Daniel?

Daniel:  When will I know if I am going to be a student here?

Ms. Miller:  You will definitely be a student here if that is what you want.  We just have to determine if you are going to be in the 5th grade or the 6th grade.  Now our school students wear uniforms. The colors are gray, burgundy, khaki, white and black.  We have dress uniforms for classes and casual clothes for after school activities. We require tie up leather shoes for classes. Athletic shoes are required to be a specific style and brand. Socks are standard black and white. Black socks for dress wear and white for athletic wear. All students are assigned a locker to store books and personal possessions. You will be issued a combination lock with its combination. If you have to have the lock removed, you will be charged for a new lock. We have a cafeteria which serves both breakfast and lunch. We are considering opening for a midafternoon snack. Breakfast is $5 and lunch is $10 and if we have a snack time, we have yet to set the price. You will be issued meal cards which are scannable and reloadable each week. We would like for you to pay for your meals on line and your cards will automatically be reloaded. You can select lunches only, or breakfast, lunch and snacks. You then can pick and choose what you want to eat and have as much as you want.  We just ask that you eat what you put on your tray.  We also ask that you eat some fruits and vegetables with every meal.  Your choices will be recorded and available for parents to review. Guest passes for the lunch room here in the main office are available. You will get a couple of guest passes today to have lunch in the cafeteria so you can try out the food.  You will be my guest, so there will be no charge. Orientation will be on August 15th and August 16th. You will be required to attend one of those days. Make your reservations for one of those two days. Any questions?

    1. Thank you… another chapter coming soon.. Couple of days…

As to the growth? I always imagined that as time passed, Bette and Tina would grow more in tuned with each other. They would grow to accept the other for who they were and their idiosyncrasies would become less bothersome for that is what defines them. As they become more knowledgeable of their mate, and more accepting of who they are, the more at peace they would become with themselves and the life they had chosen.
