Bette:  Thank you. I will also pass your words on to Tina.  She is as responsible for who he is as much as I am. I look forward to introducing you at orientation.

Ms. Miller:  I look forward to meeting her. Okay, there are a few other things we need to complete the file. I need a copy of his birth certificate, a copy of his adoption papers, and his immunization records.  We have already requested his school records from his previous schools and they assure us they are on the way. Oh, and I need copies of your picture identification and his other mother’s identification.

Bette: Well, we only have our temporary California driver’s license but we have our passports. May we email copies of those to you? I think we can have that all next week except the immunization records. Doctor’s offices never seem to be in a hurry. We are seeing a new doctor for Daniel tomorrow, maybe he or she will be able to expedite that process. Tina is returning this weekend. So, I think we can get that together.

Ms. Miller:  Perfect. Yes. Just scan those documents and put them to an email to us.

Bette: May I ask why you need all these?

Ms. Miller:  Well, the state law requires that we have evidence of immunizations to attend a public school. And they require that we have proof that the child is who he says he is and that the parents are legitimate parents or guardians of the child. So many child abductions have occurred and being raised by abductors. If you had abducted Daniel, then you would not be able to produce any of that paperwork. Once I asked for it, you would disappear. If that happened, I would have to file a police report. And you have already sent me a picture of Daniel and your name and address, so you would probably get a visit from the authorities to question why you responded as you did. It’s the way to retrieve kidnapped and abducted children.

Bette: I understand. You’ll have most of it by next week. The only thing I am not sure of is the immunizations.

Ms. Miller: Do what you can to get that to us. If we do not have them by the first day of school, he will be prohibited from attending class.
