    Children of the Night Ch5

“Your living room alone is bigger than the entire floor shop of WAX!”  Shane could not refrain from commenting.

“Well, I only need a comfortable bed.”  Carmen replied casually.

“You don’t know how luckily you are to have all these.”  She shook her head.

“We were very poor when I was little.” Carmen shrugged her shoulder.

“Right, you are the poorest in Bel Air…”  Shane was mocking her.

“You silly, we lived in East LA when I was little!”  Carmen slapped her arm playfully.

“Oh… so how did you or your family found gold?”  She felt a bit stupid for making her previous comment.

“My dad was a Mayan medicine man, understandably he wasn’t interested in money and at the end, he couldn’t save his own life neither.  My parents died in a car crash.  After that, Ray started doing what he is doing.  He was ruthless and willing to take risks, so he made a name for himself and money kept rolling in since.”  She explained.

“Many people will be jealous of you if they know where you live!”  Shane sighed.

“Did you notice anything odd about this place?”  She asked as she switched on the TV with the remote control and slump onto the sofa.

Shane looked around and everything seemed normal to her.

“Try to open a window.”  Carmen hinted it to her.

She walked across the living room and opened the curtains.  She understood what Carmen was implying.  She went to check on other windows, they were all re-enforced with metal frames from the inside.  She tried to open the windows but they were locked.  This felt like a prison.

“You know the reason already.”  Carmen was like reading her mind.

“To keep the intruders out but it also keeps the people inside from escaping too!”  Shane resigned to the fact that she had no escape route here…

“Your room is on the first floor, second room on the right.  You can go upstairs yourself.”

Shane looked up the stairs and asked, “Is there anyone else in this house?”

    Carmen shook her head smiling.

    1. Noo, Carmen shouldn’t give up! She was right when she said that “what can be broken can be mended. Your wound will heal. The hardest part is to forgive yourself. What happened was not your fault.” It’s only been a week right, so she still has 3 weeks left. Shane seems to have warmed up to her a tiny bit, so she’s made some progress in making Shane view her in a different light. This is a great fic! Hope you update soon! :-)
